During my 4th Consulting Trip to India, together with husband Pieter, he did also visit the Ketti Valley Rotary Club for handing them a US $ 500.00 check from our own Rotary Club of Dublin, Georgia.
Here husband Pieter hands the US $ 500.00 check to the Ketti Valley Rotary President in India.
The check from our own Dublin, Georgia USA Rotary Club
Sorry, my photos are NOT good but it is what it is!
Rotary Club of Ketti Valley District 3200
They just had a meeting without any food or drinks being served.
Husband Pieter tells something about the Dublin, Georgia Rotary Club
There were chairs lined up and this is the room we met in.
Mingling and talking
President standing under Club's banner...
Me to the right talking with one of the Lady Rotary members...
Wearing my Hermès silk shawl, a gift from a mushroom friend in Switzerland.
In combination with Rotary International and The Innerwheel Club of Ketti Valley they also did FREE CLINIC by LADY DOCTORS
Such a Lady Doctor at work...
And again here, the same Lady Doctor
The US $ 500.00 check from our local Dublin, Georgia Rotary Club would get used for teaching the poorest women English...
And also teaching them to sew or to knit on machines which they later on would get to take home so they could start making their own living.
There is so much to do in countries like India...
Thanks for your visit and comment!

Hello Mariette, Volunteering our own time is vital to many charities, but handing over that check also makes a satisfying moment. It represents the spirit of one Rotary chapter to another, and represents many individual donations as well as group efforts at fundraising. By the way, Rotary is also active in Taiwan, with a similar array of activities.

Dearest Jim,
DeleteIt is very rewarding and satisfying for delivering those funds literally.
Both of us have very positive experiences with Rotary Clubs the world over!
They literally can break down borders and bypass politics.
Hugs,
Mariette
liebe Mariette,
ReplyDeleteherzliche Grüße

Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteDanke!

The Salvation Army has a shelter here for Ethiopian women and while they are there for a month or two, they are taught to sew and then items are sold for pocket money. I went there some years ago and taught the girls some Christmas crochet which they then sold at bazaars. Great skills to give them and to keep them occupied while they wait to go home.
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteIt certainly goes by the very wise Chinese proverb: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
Always a pleasure for becoming an active part of such, like you yourself experienced.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette - it is wonderful that Pieter was able to give a cheque to the Ketti Rotary Club enabling their poorest women to learn English, and then also giving them machines to help them make a living once they had learnt to knit and sew. How happy they look too.
ReplyDeleteDearest Rosemary,
DeleteThis sure was a project after our hearts and it is wonderful to see things like this where others come together for lifting up the poorest of the poor.
That happy feeling probably will be remembered for their lifetime!
Hugs,
Mariette
It's wonderful the money is used for education and training. It sure looks the ladies are enjoying to learn!
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteThe very best way to really help is education indeed and providing the tools for putting into practice what they've learned!
Hugs,
Mariette
How wonderful memoirs!
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, such are highlights of our memoirs!
Hugs,
Mariette
I enjoy going back in time with you. My former son-in-law, who my daughter and our entire family are close with, married a lovely woman named Roopal three years ago. Her family lives in India, she travels there several times a year and always brings back a gift for me. I have learned much about Indian culture and custom from Roopal (who calls me by my grandmother name Woonie.)
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteWhat an added happiness Roopal has become to your life!
We both have several Indian friends for over three decades and longer.
The Hindu culture also teaches to go the extra mile and they often bring that into practice.
Knowing and understanding their culture enriches our lives!
Hugs,
Mariette
Very wonderful memories!
ReplyDeleteDearest Krishna,
DeleteYes, they're staying with us till the end of our lives...
It made both of us feel so rich inside!
Hugs,
Mariette

Dearest Tomoko,
DeleteYes, those are indeed wonderful memories to treasure for a life time.
It is the very best help anyone can extend to the poorest of the poor.
Teaching them a skill for being able to make a living.

Rotary is a wonderful organization. My husband was an assistant district governor in Houston. We were very active. Youth exchange,GSE hosts, friendship exchange...etc,etc. How wonderful that you could see your rotary club’s donation put to use.
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteYes it is indeed a wonderful and world wide organization!
Glad you also have experienced a wonderful inside scoop of its many worthwhile activities.
Hugs,
Mariette
