For the very first time since January of 2010, we drove exactly past Waynesville, North Carolina on our way home from the Smoky Mountains on July 30.
This is our tiny Speckie on January 15, 2010...
We had picked her up on January 8, and Pieter showed me this photo of her, while I still was in the hospital. Got home on Saturday, January 16.
Got paralyzed the night after we came home with this tiny baby.
A look alike of the missing (kidnapped ?) Mama cat that we lost.
But this was a 2 month kitten so impossible it would be her.
We drove a long distance to go look at her...
Actually, Pieter did all the driving from Atlanta where we spent the night at the hotel before making it to Waynesville, North Carolina.
Pieter said, shall we bring her home, we have come such a long way... and so we did!
Now I was traveling on Great Smoky Mountain Expy 74 and very close to where our Speckie girl came from, see red marker!
She sure came from a beautiful area and also close to Lake Janaluska.
Here we are with the sign from Waynesville to the right...
Lake Janaluska must be to the left here...
Such a beautiful area...
Where was our Speckie girl born? Somewhere in this region...
Roads in the USA are always great!
Bye bye Smoky Mountains...
When we had breakfast that morning in Tennessee, I noticed that we were rather close to my youngest brother who was with his wife and daughter in Iceland on vacation.
ONLY 5,405 km or 3,359 mi away now!
Instead of the usual 7,190 km

Got home after this total trip of 1075 mi or 1730 km that is including drive up to the Creeper Trail in Virginia and then to Tennessee...

Hello Mariette, You bring up an interesting point. Even when we are not specifically on vacation, as for example when rescuing a kitten or doing more ordinary tasks, there is much of beauty and interest to see. There is an abundance of things to be thankful for, from magnificent vistas to the roads that get us there.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteMost magnificent vistas both of us have seen while en route to work, internationally that is!
We always did drink it in and enjoyed those moments.
This was such a nice ride home and passing by the very place where we picked up our youngest kitten.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeletesuch a lovely story of this sweet kitten :O)
Thank you for sharing!
Have a lovely rest of the week,
Love and hugs, Claudia xo
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteOur Speckie came from a wonderful area but we doubt if she knew any of it, just two months old they said at the Animal Shelter.
Hugs,
Mariette

ReplyDeleteherzlichen Dank für deinen interessante Post.
Alles Liebe
Elisabeth
Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteDanke und ab und zu leiten Wege zurück zu frühere Einblicke...
Liebe Grüße,
Mariette
Speckie came from a very beautiful area! You must have enjoyed driving and the view, and I guess she didn't mind riding the car :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Tamago,
DeleteSpeckie indeed came from a beautiful area!
We were told though that most people that dropped kittens off at the Animal Shelter, were very poor. Wondering where she actually is born...
She was very sweet, inside a carton box, held on my knees all the time and petting her constantly.
Speckie only started crying lightly when we almost got home... She was at the Animal Shelter with her brother.
Hugs,
Mariette
How cute cat!
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteShe was very cute when she was a kitten and still is, her face did not change, the body is a lot bigger now.
Hugs,
Mariette
1730 km ... un viaggio lunghissimo, complimenti.
ReplyDeleteBuona serata
Caro Giancarlo,
Hier is men veel meer gewend.
Liefs,
Mariette
Oh sweet Speckie you tiny little morsel of dearness. I remember the momma cat when she disappeared or was kidnapped. I like to think of her being in a home somewhere..not. XXX
ReplyDeleteI have been through that area many times but it was more when we lived in Florida and were making our way up to my mother in VA or my Dad in NJ where he was for that time.
XO
Dearest Katie Isabella,
DeleteSweet little Speckie indeed, even with her Mami being in the hospital.
Amazing though how Barty, the eldest cat took her under his 'wings'... He was so lovingly cared for by Spooky II when we adopted him, so he passed that on. Maybe it bonded him and he kind of got over the loss of Spooky II as he died of heartworm at age 3.5.
Kitties can cause us to grief and they too can grief. Barty did that for 3 months, he hid outside and even slept outside under some branches, he once showed me. He's the one sleeping on the pillow and so loyally giving the acupuncture and teasing my hair!
Fond memories of all of them in a special way! Just made an old video digital about our duckling Kwekky that Pieter rescued from her own Mama duck that was pecking it to death. One sibling was no more next day and so many vanished. She attacked the very light colored ones and the darkest. Strange behavior.
Hugs,
Mariette
