Back to husband Pieter's short stay in Bangkok, now with a visit to the Floating Market on the Chao Phraya River.
It is quite busy on the Chao Phraya River...
Wondering if their housing since 1980 has changed much?
Such a trip makes one always appreciate the comforts we all enjoy at home!
Sure, in this country you find lots of coconut!
There is not much space left in the boat, for a person to sit...
Pineapple...
Fresh veggies.
Homes are rather open and will not protect much against the elements.
Bye bye Bangkok...
Bangkok city 1980... one final stroll.
Next day the journey continued on to Indonesia.
Thanks for your visit and comment!

Querida Antónia,
DeleteSí, esas fueron sin duda grandes imágenes sobre la vida en 1980 en Tailandia.
No sé si mucho ha cambiado desde que el marido Pieter tomó esos...
Abrazos,
Mariette
It's wonderful your husband Pieter visited the floating market. That must have been a really unique and memorable experience! I imagine it requires skills to maneuver the boat with lots of food (that coconut boat is amazing!) and interact with shoppers. I enjoyed all the photos :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day, Mariette!
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteWish you could have been there too as it is one of your to do things.
Those long boats indeed need to be maneuvered skillfully over the water and their load is at times quite heavy too.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, Street markets are always exotic, and river markets much more so. As you point out, Thailand is famous for its coconuts, but oddly in Taiwan which is not too far away, and where coconuts can grow, coconut is definitely not a preferred flavor. Luckily, there are Southeast-Asian markets near where I live, so I can get Thai, Indonesian, Filipino, etc. specialties, including coconut milk, dried coconut, and that all-important hot sauce!

Dearest Jim,
DeleteYou are right about that as in the Indonesian food the recipes seldom call for coconut milk either. Some dried coconut but that's about it and sure they are famous for the low-glycemic coconut palm sugar. The one we buy at Trader Joe's comes from Indonesia as well.
Hugs,
Mariette

DeleteWeet het niet of het niet veranderd zal zijn in 40 jaar tijd; denk toch wel heel veel!

I love these Southeast Asian floating markets. There is so much colour and hustle and bustle going on - it is wonderful the way that the boat people manipulate their boats whilst bartering and selling all at the same time.
ReplyDeletePeter caught the action really well.
Dearest Rosemary,
DeleteYes, would have loved to be there myself as well.
Pieter got lucky for seeing this and capturing the memory of it.
