Also in 1980, husband Pieter visited Bali. He stayed at the Bali Beach Inter Continental, now InterContinental Bali Resort.
The Hindu Temple of Tanah Lot in Bali, is actually on a tiny island in the sea.
Pieter had to zoom in from a distance, affects quality of course.

Do you see the man in the coconut palm tree?
He had to check daily for ripe coconuts, taking them down so they would not fall on the guests...

The Inter Continental guest houses were surrounded by a tropical garden...
Bali is the Island of Hindu temples.
This one is the miniature version of Besakih, Bali's Mother Temple, the largest Hindu temple complex in Bali.
Its name is Pura Kehen Temple in Bangli, Bali and it is built in the 11th century.

Leave it to the Balinese to decorate with flowers and other natural materials!

There are so many different dances but it can really overwhelm you.
I've sat once through a Ramayana dance, so lengthy...
Hope you enjoyed this exotic introduction to Bali.
In May of 1983, I too visited there and again after that.
Thanks for your visit and comment!

Liebe Elisabeth,
DeleteDanke und da bin ich froh das es dir Freude macht.
Liebe Grüße,

Hello Mariette, So much beauty and exoticism in Bali! The Temple of Tanah Lot reminds me of the famous Lone Cypress in California. I once had an opportunity to go to Bali, but work was too busy at the time. You and Pieter were lucky that your work constantly brought you to such spectacular locations.

Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, Bali is full of beauty and exoticism!
This trip was without me being there, though I've gone to Bali but never got to see these places.
Hugs,
Mariette
Abrazos,
Mariette
Hello again, I just wanted to let you know that something has changed with your Blogger account. Before, when I subscribed to blog comments, I got my own comment back, comments from other responders (after that point), and your reply comments. Now, I just get your reply comments, both to me and to others.
ReplyDeleteThis is not ideal because when the conversation becomes interesting, I like to see the incoming comments, although I cannot constantly reload each blog that I find interesting. Furthermore, I like to get my own comments back, so in the future I can look up, "Did I ever tell Mariette that story?" without having to repeat myself too many times!

Dearest Jim,
DeleteDon't know how one could ever single out reply comments that were written personally... I too receive all reply comments and those comments placed after me...
Hugs,
Mariette

Dimi...
Dearest Dimi,
DeleteWell, from Australia, Bali is so easy within reach and most Aussies have visited there.
When we were there together, we've taken an Australian woman with us to the Cathedral of Denpasar as she was on foot.
It is a beautiful country with so many things to explore.
Hugs,
Mariette
Those buildings are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, they too are of a wonderful architecture.

Such gorgeous and interesting photos from Bali. The Uluwatu cliff is beautiful! Balinese style clothes and dances look fantastic. What a great experience your husband Pieter had and it’s wonderful you got to visit there as well :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Mariette xo
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteYes, it was a wonderful experience for Pieter then and for me only little than 3 years later. Fondest memories forever.
Hugs,
Mariette
Such lovely photos of places I will not visit
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteBut virtual visits are also exciting!
I've never been to the cliff either and neither seen that island temple.
Got to see Balinese dancers though and other areas.
For you Bali is within reach, rather close to Australia.
Hugs,
Mariette
Very exotic and stunning! It's wonderful to still have the photos too, not lost in a move, but dearly treasured, bringing back lovely memories.
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteYes, you are right about that; dearly treasured and now finally, after a most hectic life Pieter can sit back and enjoy viewing them on his iPad. Those are treasures now...
Hugs,
Mariette
You recorded the beauties of Bali, great.
ReplyDeleteDearest Endah,
DeleteFond memories for Pieter and later also for me!
Hugs,
Mariette
I've always wanted to visit Indonesia. Who knows when that might happen. Airport here isn't even fully open yet. Think it's supposed to happen sometime in August. Hard to believe July is over. Despite everything, time continues to fly by.
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteLet's hope that your wish will come through one day, since you've been to Asia several times. It is a beautiful archipelago with lots of exotic fruits.
Yes, July is almost gone... can't keep up with the time!
Hugs,
Mariette
Love these photos - they remind me of my trip to Bali.
ReplyDeleteDearest Veronica,
DeleteThank you and no doubt you will recognize most of it...
Hugs,
Mariette
