Wat Arun - The Temple of Dawn in Bangkok, Thailand

Husband Pieter did spend two nights in Bangkok for some sight seeing for a couple of days, before traveling on to Indonesia.
This is the view of the over 70 meters high tower of Wat Arun, from the Chao Phraya River
Arrival on 18 July 1980 and departure on 20 July 1980...
Back then you were still allowed to climb the steep stairs!
Incredible mosaics
What a detail in all these corners and statues
A figure standing guard
Two guards in front of Ordination Hall of Grand Palace complex
A closeup of such a guard
In the back the roof from Ordination Hall is still visible
Buddha statues everywhere...
Walking again back towards Wat Arun with its four lower spires around, two you can clearly see here to the left.
On May 6, 1983 I've walked around at the Bangkok airport, coming with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from Amsterdam, Rome, Bahrain. Via Singapore to Jakarta for my first trip to that part of the world.
Hope you enjoyed these images!
Thanks for your visit.

  3. Hello Mariette, Thailand does have an abundance of unique treasures. I was there once for a business trip, and visited the amazing palace compound. The Thai people seemed very nice, but most of the Americans who lived there were oddly rude, as though they wanted to be the only foreigners there and resented any further intrusions.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Thailand no doubt has lots of treasures and it is a special country as it never got colonized.
So far, I'm lucky having a Thai friend and also a Thai aunt and two cousins. The food is one of my favorites. Our boss took us always to an authentic Thai restaurant in Jakarta and I loved it.
It it always ugly for being rude, while living in a foreign country.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    2. Yes, Thai food is wonderful. And that Thai sweet chili sauce is one of my basic staples--I use it by the large-size bottle! --Jim

For your own best will, try to use as much as you can your adopted language. There are lots of variations on how to describe certain things or feelings. Just TRY; it is for your future.

It is a study in itself and so very different from the Western culture and architecture!

  13. The Thai immigration stamp is one of the most iconic since it hasn't changed its triangular design. Confirmed it through your shared photo :) Wat Arun is so beautiful! I rode the Chao Phraya commuter Boat for just 15 Bhat and was able to pass by the Wat Arun at sunset it was gorgeous! Happy new week dearest Mariette!
