Blue Ridge Honey Company in Blueridge Mountains, Northeast of Georgia

When on Sunday, October 4, we drove to Bryson City, North Carolina for riding the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, we passed the Blue Ridge Honey Company - CLOSED of course.

But I'd made up my mind, for stopping by, on our way back home on October 6!
For me a surprise for finding the above Rose Beeswax candles...
They smell so good!

Husband Pieter got himself an 11 lbs (5.1 kg) Wildflower Honey.
100% Pure, Raw & Natural

They also do ship!

Very friendly people too!

COOKING WITH HONEY...

We so enjoyed watching this kind of LIFE MUSEUM style store, also lots of large photos!
Pieter was all smile, seeing the bees enter their hive, through a smart opening in the outside wall, via a pipe they flew in.
We could watch them from behind the glass.
Later when going to the car, after placing the heavy honey purchase (Pieter's!) into the trunk, we went to the side of the store and saw the bees coming home.
Pieter was singing in the car when I drove away, old songs from those happy times that he still had his BELOVED BEES...
Felt happy for having stopped here!

  1. Dearest Mariette,
Your rose beeswax candles look gorgeous. I am sure they smell very good!!! I am impressed with Pieter's large 5,1 kg. honey container!!! In Greece, we have very good thyme honey but also many different from conifers and wild flowers. Do enjoy your purchases! and thanks for posting the very interesting cooking with honey'' tips!
I wish you both a very happy December!
    Many hugs,
    Marie-Anne

    1. Dearest Marie-Anne,
Thank you for your kind words and you bet that those candles smell good. They reminded me of the ones we recall from Church, always made from beeswax as well.
Pieter was in heaven with such a choice of honey and in different sizes. Honey is a healthy way of sweetening.
Happy December to you and yours as well.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. Hello Mariette, I cannot imagine what you are going to do with a gallon of honey. A friend here whose uncle keeps bees gave me a half-gallon of longan (longyan) honey, but I have barely used any. Somehow it is not my go-to sweetener. My grandmother used to make old-fashioned honey cake, which was the one thing she baked that I did not appreciate--I guess it was the combination of the moistness and the honey flavor.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Guess that Pieter is somehow genetically related to the honey bear as he LOVES it and he uses it in his tea and yogurt and don't worry about this amount.
Certain chocolates that I make also call for some honey and I love the taste in it.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. I think that was a fortuitous visit Mariette, both for the honey and candle treasures you took home with you but also for the happy memories your husband enjoyed while driving home 💙

Yes, it sure was and I only wish it would be closer to home for a more frequent stop for going back to memory lane for Pieter.

  6. Hello! The candles are exquisite, can only imagine the heavenly fragrance. We keep good honey in our home, but two diabetics must use it sparingly. Tell me more about upcoming surgery ... cataracts? Stay well,

    1. Dearest Helen,
Yes, Pieter no doubt is lucky for not being diabetic! I too have to be sparingly with its use. Yes, in November of 2019 got told I needed cataract surgery but I wanted to finish the book first. Then COVID came and all appointments got cancelled, rescheduled and finally on December 17 I will have it done.
      Those candles are heaven indeed!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    2. Helen, I've now added above also the Glycemic Index info with link, it is far better than sugar and even less than that of Coconut Palm Sugar. We must adapt recipes as with pure raw honey we can use about half less, since it is sweet.

    3. Thanks for the Index update. My neighbor just had both eyes done, piece of cake.

    4. You're quite welcome Helen! Hope it IS, my worry is because I have only one good eye... don't want to become legally blind.

  7. I adore honey but I have never know anyone to buy such a large jug of it. Interesting instructions on how to cook with it. Bees are fascinating little characters.

Well, this is the reveal of my very sweet husband!
This is the Pure, Raw and Natural Honey, that makes a huge difference in its use.
Yes, even for diabetes it is rather safe to use and it takes only a litte for reaching the same sweetness.

  9. Liebe Mariette,

  11. The rose beewax candles are so beautiful, Mariette! And wow, that’s a big bottle of honey :-) I use honey for sweetener instead of sugar. I will check out this company! Sounds like your husband Pieter really enjoyed the visit. It must have brought lots of fond memories of the time he was a bee keeper :-)

    2. Liebe Mariette,

Meine Nieren waren Gott sei Dank stabil geblieben, bin oh so froh darĂźber.
      Lieber Gruß,
      Mariette
