With the entire Photo Club, where Pieter for years was an avid member of, they went to Liège in Belgium to the Farmers Market.
This was in the 1970s
An older Belgian gent (look at his cufflinks!) holding his puppy inside a Jaffa oranges crate...
While in the other hand holding a sausage for the puppy to feed on.
With this Photo Club the members got to photograph certain subjects and they had to develop and adjust their photos all by themself.
Pieter did have his own dark room inside the Dutch Training Centre for Mushroom Growing as he also was an avid photographer for training purposes.
Slides for use inside the classroom and for lectures at Congresses, Conferences .
Both, in macro and normal.
Pieter also produced the photos for his many books, all himself!
This very photo earned Pieter a 2nd place award at the local Dublin Fine Arts photography exhibit on January 10, 1993
Buona domenica a te e Peter!
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
Abbracci,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, Photography is a great skill to acquire that is an art on its own and also works well with any other specialty. Pieter's photographs seem especially accomplished, in composition, lighting, and so forth. By the way, are you sure that is a sausage is the man's hand? It would seem odd to cradle food against your face like that, but the resolution on my computer is not enough to enlarge.

Dearest Jim,
DeleteFor decades, Pieter did master photography very well and was always interested in a new, more superior camera. It is an art to be learned and mastered indeed.
Yes, Pieter is 100% positive that it is a sausage as from a distance he did study this older gent, before taking this photo.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello again, Now that we have the sausage mystery cleared up, I don't want this photo to get away merely described as excellent. First of all is the high contrast, dramatic but without overdoing it. This is partly achieved by Pieter's developing, and partly by the composition of the scene, which contrasts the dark bulk of the man's clothes with the light wood of the crate. This contrast is reversed in miniature with the man's dark body and light face and hair, the opposite of the dog's white body and dark head.
DeleteIt is interesting the way in which the man parallels the dog. Both of their bodies are at 45-degree angles, but the older man is resting and holding back, while the young puppy is springing forward. Psychological penetration is achieved by the kindly attitude and care given by the man, and reflecting the relative ages of the man and dog. Tension and drama is provided by the horizontal lines of the crate, contrasted with numerous 45-degree angles--the dog and man's backs, and both of the man's arms.
In short, this photo is contest ready. The more you look at it, the more you see.

Dearest Jim,
DeleteThank you and yes, Pieter just informs me over a cup of green tea, that this photo was a Prize Winner from his Photo Club; only one prize given. He has been several times a recipient of a prize. Remarkable, Pieter said, that you noticed one of the ground rules of looking for that line in any photo. In this case the clear 45–degree angle and the contrasts.
Hugs,
Mariette
This is a wonderful capture Mariette, your Pieter has a good eye for an appealing image 💜
ReplyDeleteDearest Grace,
DeleteThank you and yes, Pieter has been an excellent photographer.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mooie foto Mariette.
Liefs,
Mariette
Awesome photo. Hope you are ok.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteThank you!
Yes, feeling better every day!
Hugs,
Mariette
Abrazos,
Mariette
Nice photo
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteThank you!
Hugs,
Mariette
You have a very talented husband. I like this photo.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteThank you and yes, he's multitalented.
Hugs,
Mariette
Nice picture! A picture explains lots of things.
ReplyDeleteDearest Endah,
DeleteA good photo tells indeed a complete story...
Hugs,
Mariette
That sweet little doggy and the gentleman focused in on something there. Wonderful sepia tone picture. I can see the wood grain on the box, nothing in the picture too dark or saturated. Fine work Pieter does. I enjoy seeing pictures like this. Grand daddy used to have dark room and develop his film. We have some of his pictures he developed that he water colored in the subject.
ReplyDeleteHugs, betsy
Dearest Betsy,
DeleteYes, it was a sweet puppy that probably would have to say goodbye to his owner...
Back then, Pieter was an avid photographer and has remained so for decades but times have changed. Good for having similar memories from your Grand daddy!
Hugs,
Mariette
