Quite a challenge all the upkeep of wooden bridges...
Repairing the bridge and then preserving the wood...
Pieter is looking happy with the progress he made!
Wearing his Franklin Farms sweatshirt, see post below.
It is quite a length to be worked at!
Keep in mind that the creek can be wild and very wide during heavy rain.
On January 9, Pieter started cutting the underbrush, using his small electrical chainsaw with double extension cord.
So we will have a far more 'open view' of our wood garden.
On January 13 with good light...
LOVE all the mosses growing at the foot of this already huge oak that we once planted.
Bridge is in the back.
Pieter making progress with cutting the underbrush alongside the creek.
Lots of mosses along the creek's edge.
Lovely view of a calm and crystal clear creek...
The upkeep of our estate is quite a task but also very rewarding!

Bravo Pieter sempre al lavoro.Buona domenica.
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
DeletePieter non riesce a stare fermo... E stare fuori è salutare!
Abbracci,
Mariette
Abrazos,
Mariette
A bridge over (sometimes) troubled and fast running water.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful wood you have and it is rewarding work to see what you have achieved.
God bless you both.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteYes, at times it becomes troubled and rapid moving water...
We love the wood garden and its many birds and critters.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette! Moss is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, I've always loved mosses!
Hugs,
Mariette
Such a beautiful piece of property you have. I bet you enjoy looking at it with the seasons changing. All of this activity is keeping Pieter young!
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteThank you and yes, it is lovely during all seasons.
So far it has kept Pieter's heart going; he IS exercising as is advised by his heart surgeon and eating right. May God continue to grant him more of such days.
Hugs,
Mariette
Is Pieter for hire please? Haha, just kidding, but so thankful you have such a great hubby able to still do so much to keep up your amazing property. Bob's good too about getting out there, however our lot is much smaller and no 'river run's through' it!
ReplyDeleteRight now with the snow cover - which I love - I can see the deer came through last night - and this cold 16F) morning the birds and squirrels are feasting nonstop!
Staying home until the ice melts which may take a few days. Apparently, according to last night's TV news, many fractures seen at the local hospitals yesterday - don't want that!
Hugs - Mary
Dearest Janey,
DeleteNo he is not for hire, he does only a couple of hours a day and he takes his nap. Just when the sun is out... This morning it was 23℉ here but no snow. Birds are so happy with the food we provide!
Be careful with the ice, indeed BEST to stay put at home as we don't need any fractures.
Hugs,
Mariette
The bridge is terrific! I love your property, Mariette. I dream of living near a little brook. 🙂
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly a lot of work, but definitely rewarding.
Dearest Kim,
DeleteThank you and we sure are glad that all three bridges now are sturdy and safe again and wood has been treated.
A little brook is nice but you also get the roaring monster that destroys anything in its path...
So far for the 31 years that we live here, we have enjoyed our nature!
Hugs,
Mariette
I love the idyllic landscape surrounding your home .... Hello to you and to Pieter on this blessed Sunday.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteThank you and the birds and critters love it very much, as do both of us.
Hugs back to you from both of us!
Mariette
Hello Mariette, Just as I thought you and Pieter could be taking a break from your yard work, along come all these new chores. Regarding your remark, I know how the tiniest brooks can become raging torrents after a storm or (up north) during the spring met-offs. Although I love rivers, I avoid them at those times!
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteIt almost seems like an endless chain of chores at times but we are gaining!
Oh, one should not underestimate the force of water. One time we saw an entire cross tire that somehow had traveled through the huge culvert under the road and on into the creek.
Hugs,
Mariette
A job done well
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteSo far, yes a very well done job!
Hugs,
Mariette
My Gosh - You Two Kids Are Such An Inspiration To Us All - Mr P Should Be Proud As That Was A Serious Project - Well Done & Looking Marvelous
ReplyDeleteCheers
Dearest Travis,
DeleteThank you and my Pieter sure is an inspiration to many!
Hugs,
Mariette
This is the kind of work Jerry and I love to do! Well, we're not in a house anymore and Jerry can no longer do anything strenous, but still.... I love the bridge, that really is quite the project. And cutting down and cleaning up underbrush - not many of us get a kick out of doing that! I love the outdoors and this would be something I would do! Yay, Pieter - you're my hero trimmer/cutter/cleaner-upper! LOL! This will be so beautiful when all the green and colors of Spring return!
ReplyDeleteDearest Diana,
DeleteWe have three bridges crossing this creek. Pieter is fortunate for still having the will–power and strength for doing this as he is almost thirty–three years ahead of Jerry.
We both look forward to the spring!
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely to see more of your estate. How delightful to have a creek, and especially with a bridge. It is looking great with a new coat of paint. The woods look so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDearest Patricia,
DeleteThank you and in general it sure is lovely to have a creek running through our property but it can become a roaring monster at times. Due to those flood periods, it is a challenge for keeping our three bridges functioning and with safety.
Hugs,
Mariette
Beautiful landscape around your house. The bridge over the creek is quite pretty.
ReplyDeleteThere's always something to do around our houses and gardens.
Dearest Sami,
DeleteAll three bridges take up a lot of work but once done and wood treated, it looks nice.
Yes, having your own home with big garden takes a lot of work.
Hugs,
Mariette
A lovely property you and Pieter have Mariette. Pieter is moving right along with it. Got on knee pads, something I always forget to put on and I need to wear them especially with one knee replacement and the other is questionable. Do you have water in your creek all of the time? Ours will dry up but it flows really well when it rains and will run a few days.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about the electric saws, and it looks to be from your pictures that the one being used does a fine job. I have seen the battery ones, but I wonder what kind of charge they hold? I think I would like one like Pieter has. I enjoyed seeing your woodland garden. Hugs, Betsy
Dearest Betsy,
DeleteIt is lovely, when well maintained and it is quite a job.
Knee pads are great for protecting the knees.
We have had very dry summers with no running water in the creek but usually it flows well.
Pieter's electric chain saw (he got 2, alternating as the chains come off sometimes or the chain gets stuck...😒) are both 16".
Hugs,
Mariette
It's amazing to see the affection with which you treat your space.
