One year for Saint Nicholas, my sister Diny and I received each a woven sewing basket...
Diny's was in a lilac color and mine was red.
This is how it looks after half a century...
Beautiful padded inside with red satin
From the outside...
No idea where it was made...
Do any of you have a similar one?
How lovely! I have seen sewing baskets in my time but none as special as this!! I am currently using a fairly large shoebox … LOL.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteThank you and I still love it as much as I did when I received it new.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful basket you received!
I liked to see the inside and the outside you showed.
Lilac color Diny received must be lovely too.
Have a good day, Mariette.
Dearest Tomoko,
DeleteThose indeed were very lovely baskets, the lilac as well.
Whenever I love something very much, I will treasure it and take very good care of it.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette
Still new after half-a-century. Will I also be new in 50 years time?
ReplyDeleteGod bless you.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteNo doubt your soul will be but not so much our body...😉
Hugs,
Mariette
It's certainly in pristine condition, after all these years! No, I don't have a sewing basket, woven or otherwise. I used to have fun as a child poking through my mom's though. :-)
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteThank you and probably the kitties would love to help in making it look more vintage... But this is up inside the cabinet above the sink in the laundry/sewing room.
Mom had a large one, handmade out of wood by my Dad for her one Saint Nicholas. Sister Diny took that home with her about eight years before Mom passed away. Mom wept when she told me over the phone as she'd treasured that over the decades.
Hugs,
Mariette
How wonderful! This piece is really to keep forever. Well... at the moment my sewing box is, let's say, the first drawer of a piece of furniture dedicated exclusively to my things. Because of my job, I really have a lot.

Dearest Christina,
DeleteThank you and I will keep this forever. I too have several places and it is more organized by craft.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, It's hard to believe that all your sewing paraphernalia fits into that single box! My mother also has a satin-lined wicker sewing basket, but based on a pattern different from yours. I actually did a sewing repair job myself the other day, and was surprised that it came out rather neatly.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteHaha, no way that all would fit into this box... I've divided things up by project. Glad to hear your Mother had a similar one with satin lining.
Why would men not be able to manage such jobs. Dad used to have a tailor and he worked meticulous back in my childhood days.
Times have changed though, a lot less handwork.
Hugs,
Mariette
Bellissimo cestino,buona serata!
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
DeleteGrazie e hai ragione che dopo tanti anni è ancora bellissimo.
Abbracci,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,
Mariette
I like the basket, mum had one like it
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteGuess those have been popular for a vast number of countries, back then.
Hugs,
Mariette
