Our Agapanthus and Wood Trail

Both of us loved the green intersections in México City, often with Agapanthus.
On our way to work we passed by numerous parks.
Link below post leads to a video of them at 2:07
On May 24, 1993 Pieter is standing next to one of our blue Agapanthus.
This was one year before we started consulting work in Mexico.
Everything grew in our garden when we had access to the spent mushroom compost... Such a great end product from mushroom cultivation!
Saponaria officinalis in the front or soapwort. We also had Saponaria ocymoides or rock soapwort.
Tall blue Agapanthus and Saponaria in the front.
On March 9, 1993 the same year! Pieter dug ditches for getting rid of the excess water, letting our lot drain.
He also built the first Wood Trail.
Lowes at that time sold ready built squares in treated wood.
And then, in 2004 ALL ditches got filled in with the 60 metric tons of dirt, which Pieter shoveled out from under the house, where he built the Rose Suite!
On April 18, 1993 Pieter with the wheelbarrow full of spent mushroom compost, adding to all plants and shrubs that we planted.
To the left you see already one blue Agapanthus blooming here.
Several of those trees we had cut down, way too many and they compete for food with plants and shrubs more than anything else!
Thursday, April 29, 1993 on Pieter's 64th Birthday...
Even in–between the cross tires that we both placed here (they were put somewhere but NOT in the right spot while we worked in Indonesia), with the help of spent mushroom compost perennials thrived.
This is alongside the driveway and retainer wall.
Our Wood Trail on April 29... what a huge difference with March 9 in photo above; lots of hard work planting and tending for plants and shrubs.
A happy Birthday guy and gardener!
Pieter with our Azalea Helena Curtis
Pieter with  the Saponaria officinalis.
Our young Mock Orange
On the cordless phone in the garden...
Wood trail, ditches and to the left in the back you see our veggie garden.
All grew so well on the spent mushroom compost!
Wood trail and to the right you see the gazebo steps and the pond in the center.
Wood trail end and again, our veggie garden.
We sure enjoyed our Paradise, always together with Squirrels and Chipmunks as they were rather tame.
Remember, we did NOT have kitties at the time...

My Pieter Turned 93

Yes, today is a very special day as my Pieter turned 93!
Thanks to a great Cardiologist and complete change of medications he lived beyond the grave message we received from our previous cardiologist; who actually neglected him.
Prayers also DO help!
Just to show you our ABUNDANCE of fresh flowers back then...
All varieties of Calla lilies and sweet smelling white Lathyrus.
I used all kind of Baccarat crystal vases for them, also Baccarat perfume bottles.
Below is a 1:33 minute short video from our vases with garden flowers on Pieter's 74th Birthday.
At 0:46 you see our white fragrant peonies.
Immediately followed by pink roses in my Rose China with sprigs of Forget–Me–Not.
A DREAM!
We have no roses left, and if you see how many we had back then...
Guess the competition of the now huge oak trees and others is way too fierce.
And we miss the spent mushroom compost already for two decades!
That was the very best from mushroom cultivation.
A Happy Pieter on his 81st Birthday on Dutch Queen's Day celebration in Atlanta.
This was good 4 months before his heart attack and open heart surgery on September 3. 2010.
Wearing my Escada suit that we saw while in Budapest but could not afford it then, at full boutique price.
Found it later on eBay.
Around Pieter's Birthday, our Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold is at its BEST.
One of our Palm Trees is right in front of it in this photo.
Sadly today was the funeral of the late Georgia Congressman, the Honorable J. Roy Rowland who had a special U.S. flag flown over the U.S. Capitol for both of us on December 30, 1993...
April 23, was Pieter's 29th Birthday as a United States Citizen!
Post shared on FB Page
Shared also on my FB...
Pieter had a very special and happy Birthday!

SPRING ARRIVED

Each year it is quite a joy to see the Spring Blossoms!
Here I stand next to the azaleas that grow behind our gazebo.
Wearing my wool with rayon shorts from Escada's Apriori line with matching top.
Booties and belt I've found elsewhere and also my brown slouch socks.
These azaleas were in full bloom on March 9.
Hard to keep up with everything!
While working in the office, finally processing the long scanned photos from Pieter's family and adding names and info as Pieter recalls, Pieter brought me this fragrant nosegay of Bluebells...
March 21... WISH I could share the heavenly fragrance!
These pansies were putting on a show on March 23, looking so happy on our retainer wall alongside the driveway.
Our Somei Yoshino Cherry in bloom behind the pond.
Our Bletilla Striata Alba Orchid in bloom in a pot.
It is native to Japan and China, see post below.

Are you enjoying Spring Flowers?

Winter and our House Plants in Delft White Pots

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all American readers!

Before I've mentioned how hard it was to keep all our house plants alive, while being away for 3 weeks at a time, doing consulting work.
With the water computer inside our greenhouse, things worked out perfect, together with a heater for the colder period.
Here is our excellent collection from that time...
When viewed on YouTube you can find English text below, with clickable points.
Remember, we always talked Dutch, as those videos got mailed out to my Parents...
A nice view of our Kitchen Bay Window and our Veranda—full with plants.
This was around Christmas in1985, our previous home where we had solid oak indoor shutters that were not painted white.
Me crocheting on some curtain with my feet up onto the leather foot stool.
You can see the same solid oak indoor shutters here now open.

Houseplants in Delft White Pots in Our Veranda

As mentioned before, we loved keeping house plants.
This is in our Veranda, where we live now.

Not always easy due to our International Consulting.
In the background you can hear the Dutch World Radio (it got being 'silenced' in 2013... see link from previous post below.
When viewed on YouTube you find English information written below.
This was in the Veranda of our previous home...
Our present home's veranda.
Still have my Delft White Pots!
Those hand crocheted curtains died.

Our Rock Garden

Yes, we did create a Rock Garden with all the BIG rocks we collected on our property and in the area.
We have toted them home, tied to a spade, dragging behind us.
Happy me with the first blossoms on the cactus and succulents that Pieter did bring home from California.
Mauzie with me on April 24, 1985 near cactus bloom.
Our 1st home was build on a slope, just like our 2nd home.
This very spot I've often had to shovel up the topsoil with sentipede grass seed, after it got washed out once again by a heavy tropical rain.
Pieter often was gone, so I had to take care of home and garden.

Verbena Lanai Blush White

On May 13, our trailing Verbena Lanai Blush White were looking their best!
Our little silver rose vase filled with them.
And on June 1, we had this in our Fiberglass Window Boxes alongside the driveway.
They are not quite as happy in the extreme heat.
As of today, they almost are getting drowned with severe thunderstorms and torrential rains.
That's the outlook for the coming days...
We got ours from whiteflowerfarm.com
Hope you have a lovely new week coming your way.

Thanks for your visit and comment!

Our Bletilla Striata Alba Orchids After Winter Inside Greenhouse

Even plants can show their happiness!
Before they used to live for 20 years in our wood garden but the competition with huge trees was fierce.
So Pieter dug them up and planted them in pots, you can find the link below post.
They were very happy inside our Greenhouse extension that Pieter built.
Blooming rather early but I could not make photos as I couldn't get inside, past some citrus trees in pots.
On March 8, I could get to them as Pieter already had hauled the first half of pots outside.
Looking very healthy and happy!
Some already started to wilt, they were over their peak already.
But both of us were very happy with their performance!

Do you also enjoy plants that show happiness?

{Our Bletilla Striata Alba Orchids now Happily in Pots}

Our Bletilla Striata Alba Orchids have been struggling from February 1996 on, in our wood garden.
Pieter managed to find them in the fall and dig them up, for transplanting them into pots.
They are quite happy!
This photo was taken by husband Pieter on March 20.
Inside the greenhouse, but looking quite happy and healthy!
The foliage is so much stronger looking too.
These beautiful orchids are native to Japan and China
Guess in our wood garden, the competition of all the roots from trees is too much.
So we're happy for having rescued them.

Thanks for your visit!

{Breakfast in the Sunshine}

The TRUTH is that we have bought our lot, while driving around and looking for a spot where we would have SUNSHINE at breakfast time!
Yes, that is a true story and let me show you how it worked out...
And yes, Deborah, we have breakfast while viewing our hummingbirds that come right to the window on the right, you see the red cap of the feeder.
Breakfast in our Kitchen Bay Window area with SUNSHINE!
Most of the time...
Add some fresh flowers and the use of the handmade silver container from Indonesia for our margarine and you feel instantly happy!
We use Vegan Cheese as I am not allowed to eat too much protein, due to my CKD stage 3.
Yep, that's my healthy breakfast with supplements...
One demitasse with coffee and cocoa added and coconut oil.
One cup of soy milk from Trader Joe's as it is with the least amount of sugar.
Dutch BOLLETJE RYE BREAD (ROGGEBROOD) from Vander Veen's in Wyoming, Michigan.
Are you having breakfast in a sunny spot at your home?

Thanks for your visit!

{Dahlia with Hibiscus and Clerodendrum Ugandese}

We all LOVE to have some fresh cut flowers from our own garden...
Even if it means only a few of them!
On our kitchen table... on June 12.
To the left you see a beautiful Dahlia, to the right a Hibiscus syriacus 'Blushing Bride' that came straight from Our Life in Italy!
In the center, top and bottom is our special Clerodendrum Ugandese or Blue Butterfly Bush.
Husband Pieter also captured them with his camera...
Yes, that Hibiscus syriacus 'Blushing Bride' has a very special story which you can read from link below blog, about our life in Italy.
We are thrilled that we still have it after all those years!
And again and you can see the sunshine that twinkles in the tiny vase.
The Clerodendrum Ugandese came from +Logee's Greenhouses in Connecticut
The Clerodendrum Ugandese or Blue Butterfly Bush flower a bit more in detail...

Together they just made a beautiful and very sweet vase!

Do you love to bring in some home grown flowers?

Our climate is very harsh so we never yield a lot...

Thanks for your visit!
