{My Silk Quilted Vest Creation and YOUR Opinion Requested...}

Need your help and input here... This silk quilted fabric I once found at Britex Fabrics in San Francisco at the time when we frequently went to the west coast for consulting work. From a Burda pattern I did create this vest with one-piece single welted pockets. I am wearing this vest on my Escada pants with an Escada silk blouse. That's exactly the question I want to ask you... How do you like the blouse better; with bow or with a rose? Look below for the different looks and tell me what your opinion is!

  • On April 15, in front of our Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold Oak.
  • I am holding our Sacha girl...
  • This shows you the bow and my hair pulled back in a pony tail.

  • Sacha also is studying that bow... So what do you think?

  • Sacha is very vocal and here she loudly voiced her opinion...
  • I am waiting for yours!

  • I used a Burda pattern and did a lot of top-stitching with Japanese silk thread, from Britex Notions.
  • Colors match very well and it is also completely lined in silk.

  • Using a French barrette clip, I created my own hair bow...

  • This was taken on Sunday, May 6 with my hair down and without the bow.
  • Have a look further and tell me what you like most.
  • This is inside our gazebo...
  • Wearing my Escada pants; Escada silk blouse and Escada pumps.

  • Hair down and here I've twirled the silk necktie into a rose...

  • Different look or not...?
  • Tell me what you like best.

  • Pushed my hair back so you get a better look at my rose...

  • Closeup view...

  • Even closer here.

  • One-piece single welt pockets and matching buttons from Britex Notions.

  • Detail of one-piece single welt pocket and the top-stitching done with silk thread.

  • Yes, they are real pockets!

  • In the back it has a bow and more top-stitching.

Hair down, versus pony tail...

  • Voilà - the back bow and now I'm eager to hear your opinion!

Thanks for your reply as it means a lot to me.

  2. Hi Mariette,

Your vest is very beautiful. I think the bow and the rose both work. Of course, you're the only one who could pull off this look! Hope you're doing well!

  3. Mariette, Definitely, the tie made into a rose and with your hair down.Your vest is gorgeous and the rose is so chic and shows off your vest better than with the tie made into a bow. Hope this helps.

  5. You are such a great seamstress and have a lovely figure to show off your clothes. The vest is beautifully made and I prefer it with the rose at your neck so that you can see the whole vest.

  6. There is something of the fabulously rich and costly dress of the 17th century in your gorgeous vest. I think you look stunning in both versions but my favourite is the rose.

  14. Hello Mariette,

I like the last one which is looking like a rose! You don't see that very often. I like this beautiful clothes, so chique! I am not wearing such chique things always busy around the house, only when I go out or to town!

    Have a nice day!

  15. Mariette, you are such a brilliant seamstress. This is so lovely. I love the gold with the cream. I think the photo with the neck tied in a rose looks beautiful and shows off the vest better. The bow covers too much at the front. The vest accentuates your lovely slim figure too. Your hair looks nicer down and pushed back over your shoulders. ps love the shoes. xx

    Einfach perfekt!

    Liebste Grüße

  21. Love the rose more than anything and righrly said by another lady it shows the waistcoat better. You have great hair - I think you could also look stunning with the cut you had when you were younger, cut in a short bob, as it just lifts the face - and you have a good bone structure so you can get away with it.I think you know which cut I mean, which I saw once on your blog , a picture from the nineties- it looked fab.I know long air is easier in a way :-))))
    Love as always

  26. Dear Mariette,

You look so beautiful in your vest and love both looks, but think my preference is the bow.
Bows are very fashionable at the moment - I have a white cotton shirt with a bow, which I love.
The vest is fabulous and love the little welt pockets and the little back bow.

Hope that you are having a lovely week

  28. My dear friend Mariette,
You look stunning, you are so beautiful, your vest is gorgeous, I love the fabric it is very nice, you did an excellent job. It's very hard to decide which looks better, the bow or the rose, mmmmmm....the bow is very elegant and the rose looks so romantic, I'm truly believe you look fantastic wearing either one or the other, because at the end it is your beauty that makes shine the clothes you wear.
Send you a big hug my sweet friend,
    love to you

  33. Hi Mariette, continued congratulating you! This vest has left you a piece of haute couture, and it is not flatter you, for everything you've shown us that you are very good at sewing! All details of the vest, speak 'for themselves! the fabric is a beautiful selection of colors and you sit very well. I'm not a guru 'of fashion, but I think the rose in the neck and hair in a bun pickup modern, accentuating your face clearing it, making your neck look would be perfect! could be seen the back of the neck, and the vest, concentrating on the details view, your face, vest and bow details and become a beautiful rose! Mariette, you are so talented! I congratulate you for this post! hugs, Rose M.

  41. Dear Mariette, I do wish you're my sister, I used to do a lot sewing and knitting when i was a little younger, did tried teach my two sisters to knit, one nearly finish a cardi, its not their interest, they never tried anymore. I love to know someone to sew and knit... to share our experiences show off our creations, my English is poor, don't know what words to use, show off is all I can think of now! :-) I love reading your blog, especial things you made, and the flowers and garden. Have a lovely day Mariette.

PS: After reading this post again this morning, I am dreaming I want to made a waistcoat like yours, is it out from a pattern? Really do wish you're my big sister! :-)

  42. Liebe Mariette,
