{Blooms on our Windmill Palm - Trachycarpus fortunei}

The Trachycarpus fortunei, or Windmill Palm, is one of the most cold hardy of the Palm trees. It also looks striking when it blooms. So those pictures I want to share with you here. This is actually a Chinese fan palm ←click it.
First picture is taken on March 24 against the back drop of our Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold or Golden Live Oak.
On March 13, this is how it started with the blooms still inside a big bud.
March 24, with again in the back drop, to the left, our Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold or Golden Live Oak. Sacha-girl, our cat is on the driveway.
Amazing what all comes out of such a closed bud!
Resembles sorghum here...

Very exotic!
March 28 now, more and more palm blooms.
Mother nature works wonders...
March 31...
A day with over cast on March 31, but what a colors. Below are some other links where you can see this beautiful palm, even in wintertime, during the ice storm.
Hope you enjoyed looking at one of our exotic looking evergreen trees.
Do you have palm trees?

  4. Hello Mariette

What an amazing flower: its bud looks egg-shaped and the flowers make me think of giant bunches of grapes. I wonder if it is scented.

  10. Dear Mariete!!!

your garden looks so calm and tidy!!! VERY peaceful!! And really enjoyed your icy pictures! (How long did that pink bloom survive?)..

I don't have a palm - neither anything else exotic (or exciting)...teh garden is still only beautiful in my mind...but we have started working on it...not that it is ever going to be as perfect as yours...It is a small space, slopey ground, a tiny stream, lots of shade...and I guess it is going down the slightly 'messy' cottage style garden look with a few straight lines amongst it to keep my Grrman sense for straightens happy....:).

    Have a wonderful week!!!

    Love

  15. Hallo Mariette,
wunderbar, wie die Palme blüht. Das finde ich faszinierend, dass ihr trotz Winterkälte Palmen im Garten habt. Oder werden die im Winter weggeräumt?
    Schöne Grüße, Johanna

  23. Hi Mariette,
My goodness what a beautiful palm.It truly is amazing how many flowers came from the bud. We do have palms in our yard, but I do not know their names. Also we had a few that had very sharp pointed leaves with stickers, so we had to have them removed because they were just to close to the pool. We have a lot of children in our family who come over to swim.
Your yard is so lovely and green and so full of beauty.
    Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
