Last year, when visiting The Netherlands for Mom's 90th Birthday and Mom & Dad's 65th Wedding Anniversary, our sister-in-law did drop off this local news paper at our VacantieWoningPardoes.
In which the Theresia Cloister in Meterik was published. That's where I got my 3-year education in Fashion Design in the mid to late sixties of last century.
This is the link from the HALLO Horst aan de Maas: Straatnamen:Theresiastraat Meterik
Streetnames: Theresiastreet in Meterik, a little town within Horst aan de Maas.
So that's where I went for 3 years, on my bike...
It was the February 19, 2014 issue.
For my Dutch readers who are interested in: geschiedenis van de kleine zusters van de H. Joseph -Met de minsten der Mijnen - Gabrielle Dorren
There is a book titled: history of the little sisters of Saint Joseph - For the least of Mine by Gabrielle Dorren.
The English translation of above website about the book:
The congregation of the Little Sisters of Saint Joseph was founded on June 21, 1872 in Heerlen. Over the course of time, more than three thousand Dutch and Belgian women have entered. As religious, they focused mainly on those who were least looked after. The Little Sisters of St. Joseph worked in nursing, mentally defective care, custody institutions, education, elderly homes and church institutes such as seminars and retreat houses. They were active in the Netherlands and in Belgian Limburg, but also in China, Indonesia and Kenya. In with the least of the Mine, Gabrielle renders a history of 140 years, in which the Little sisters themselves emerge in all their diversity: in many ways they gave and give shape to their spirituality of simplicity, dedication and surrender.
Fond memories of this Theresia Cloister, where also our Great-Aunt used to live, before I even went to this Fashion Design school. The sisters had a kind of a nursing home for the elderly. It was my Paternal Grandfather's sister.
Interesting piece of history...
looks like a nice place to get an education!
ReplyDeleteDearest Theresa,
DeleteIt sure was a very nice place!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteanother wonderful piece of history. It looks really like a nice place to get educated!
Have a wonderful week,
Love and hugs, Claudia
P.S. I still wait for delivery of those golden things...I have written the lady again and hope they will now come!
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteYes, it was a lovely place to go to and they also had a huge garden at that time. I went there for 3 years.
Enjoy your mid-week and sending you hugs.
Wonder why they are so slow in reacting... Let's hope she will soon, indeed!
Love,
Mariette
A beautiful building. I can imagine in the winter how chilly that bike ride might have been!
ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteGuess because we were all born and raised in 'kikkerland' we did not even realize it was cold in winter! We just did it and survived. Fond memories and it is a beautiful building indeed.
Hugs,
Mariette
ci fai vedere sempre bei posti!Baci,Rosetta!
ReplyDeleteCara Rosetta,
Mariette
How nice the place you studied was on the newspaper! That's a very lovely building.
ReplyDeleteI rode bicycle to school when I was in junior high school. My hometown gets very windy in winter, so riding bicycle was very challenging. But it was a good exercise :-)
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteYes, and also such a coincidence that it just appeared while we were visiting The Netherlands! I've always gone to school on a bike and windy it got also in the fall and winter and often rain or snow. But it was very healthy exercise indeed!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette, what a lovely place to get an education!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine you riding your bike as i saw many people in the Netherlands
doing the same!Wish you a lovely week ahead!Hugs!
Dimi...
Dearest Dimi,
DeleteIt indeed was a very lovely place to study and especially the huge garden. Biking is so common in The Netherlands, we only went by bike until I got married and had a car...
Lovely remainder of the week and sending you hugs,
Mariette
Nice memories from a beautiful school, dearest Mariette!
ReplyDeleteIn primary school I was going to the Sisters of Saint Joseph de l’ Apparition, in Athens!
Many hugs!
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteYes this was a very lovely school and Kindergarten, Primary school and this Fashion Design school was run by nuns, but not the High school I went to.
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteI had so much lovely memoliy of thersiastreat your school studied! My bike was best of when a younger age time...but I'am easily frustrated especially in situations where I'am doing about WAR'S time that make time with which I can't fully engage here though...No Photos!
Hugs and Love to you both!
Michiko
Dearest Michiko,
DeleteFor sure you too have been able to ride your bike! I've always enjoyed it, especially back in The Netherlands where it is as flat as a pancake. NOT here in Georgia and it can be very hot...
Hugs and love from both of us.
Mariette
lieve Mariette ,
Mariette
Beautiful blog dear, follow me and i follow you back!!!kiss
ReplyDeleteDearest Carolina,
DeleteSure, I did fly over to your great air-force museum visit with great photos of you!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi Mariette
Mariette
Dearest Mariette; Beautiful and Elegant looking school to learn Fashion Design♡♡♡ When I was a high school student, I had to use bike as no transportation close to my house to school. And no problem for young girl and I think I could enjoyed the season. But after I had a small accident (not series injury), not using bike I'm scared to ride(^^;) That was right after 50 :-)
ReplyDeleteSending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteOh yes, we always went by bike to all schools. Only after I got married and had to drive 20 km to work, I used my car. Here we bike less because of the heat and hills... but we still do when nice weather.
Hugs and love back from Georgia, we got home from Arizona this morning by 2:00 AM.
Mariette
What a lovely old building. I can imagine how times were so different then. You riding your bike to school for fashion design in a building where your great aunt lived. Very interesting indeed. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteIndeed a lovely building with some family history as well and what a different world indeed for being able to reach school by bike. Here in the USA the huge distance makes it impossible.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post and such a lovely place to attend your Fashion Design. Must be happy memories looking back at the photos.
Enjoy the weekend dear friend
Hugs
Carolyn
Dearest Carolyn,
DeleteYes, it sure did bring back happy memories from those three years spent there.
Sending you hugs for a happy weekend.
