{Old Miele Dishwasher on Bike Rack}

Okay, on December 29, the day after our New Miele Dishwasher got delivered, husband Pieter did go ahead and strap our Old Miele Dishwasher on our Toyota RAV4's Bike Rack...
We both did haul it out of the front door, it sat in the hall way and over this brick path to the car.
We were lucky that it worked out this way since otherwise we would have no means of transportation for dropping it off at the Recycle Center.
Yes, we have to drop off ALL our garbage ourselves.
We live just outside of the City Limits so there is no City Garbage Collection...
You can hire a private company that does that weekly but we live on a very strict budget and we don't like to have ALL garbage put together.
We recycle as much as we can by separating things!
Looking rather trashy...
But this is how we transport all our things, week after week.
Yeah, this was the culprit of our old October 19, 1998 Miele Dishwasher giving up...
I bet that in the USA and maybe also in Canada, a lot of people do have to drop things off at a recycle center.

  2. No city garbage collection...that must be tough! In our area, we have trucks coming for recycle and non-recycle items. We need to call a special pick up for large items.

Thank you for your sweet comment on post about Kit, Mariette xoxo

That is because we are just outside of the city limits...
Your Kit was a very touching little creature.

  6. Your bike rack is very versatile and you and Pieter are very clever for using it this way, Dear Mariette! Too bad about your dishwasher troubles......Yes, we have to recycle everything here in WA state. It does make it difficult to transport these things sometimes! Hope you get your new dishwasher soon. Hugs xo Karen

  7. That makes it hard when you have to transport your own recycling to the collection center.
We actually have a council collection twice a year for the household rubbish like furniture, computers, appliances. Our old fridge just broke down recently, just in time for the collection that was last week!

  8. Dearest Mariette,
good job, now the old stuff is gone ... here , when you get a new machine delivered, they take the old one back , that's great, because it not always is possible to take thie big stuff in tiny cars ;O)....
    Happy week,
Love and hugs and blessings, Claudia xo

    1. Dearest Claudia,
As explained to others, our Miele dealers are in Atlanta, the capital of Georgia and that is 2.5 hours driving distance from us. So no delivery and no placing of the appliance. We have handled that always ourselves so far and even did haul our own appliances the first time in 1998 on our little trailer. That was oven; dishwasher and hood. The washer and dryer got delivered by big truck and we placed it ourselves as well. So did our dishwasher. The cooktop and food warming drawer and plate warming drawer also got delivered via UPS as they are smaller in size.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

      Liefs,
      Mariette

  11. Dearest Mariette,
Your post makes me realize how fortunate we are to have a good trash pick up that includes recycling, and is relatively inexpensive! They even took two old refrigerators away. They were supposed to charge us but one of the guys who works there does his own recycle business on the side, so that was cost free too!
    Enjoy your day.......*s*

    1. Dearest Nathalie,
We too do compose all our vegetable and fruit peels etc. So at least the rural French area is the very same as here in the USA. It also forces you to live more environment friendly.
      Hugs,
      Mariette
