When we arrived the previous day at the Budapest airport, Viking had done an excellent job by meeting and transferring their guests!
So after one excellent night sleep at Hyatt's Párisi Udvar Hotel Budapest, we woke up feeling relaxed and pampered.
This was the view on June 4, from our room across the street, taken around 8:00 AM.
It actually is the Maverick Hostel Budapest...

We left after a great breakfast at the Párisi Passage Café & Brasserie
We were leaving by 8:30 AM for our city tour by bus so I've taken this photo from the hotel, while seated in the bus...
Here we are crossing the River Danube, which lies very close to the Párisi Udvar Hotel Budapest
Our bus toured us around and parked near the Fishermen's Bastion where we continued on foot with our guide.
Here we halted at the beautiful and meaningful Statue of the Independence War.
The Matthias Church of Budapest which lies in front of the Fishermen's Bastion also.
It dates back to 1015 and was used as coronation Church by Hungarian Kings.
Also knows as Church of Our Lady
On a bright sunny day it was rather hard to capture the special Raven with Ring, on the steeple...
Inside the Matthias Church or Church of Our Lady
We wish we could have heard the organ play during Mass!
Equestrian Statue of Saint Stephen, first Christian King of Hungary
Photo taken from the Fishermen's Bastion of the Danube River with Parliament Building - The 3rd largest Parliament Building in the World!
Completed in 1902 after 20 years of construction and consists of 691 rooms.
It also houses the Hungarian Crown Jewels
A view more to the left from the Parliament Building across the River Danube
Husband Pieter enjoying the spectacular views from Fishermen's Bastion
We did have some free time to stroll around...
View from the Matthias Church, coming out of this side street...
We found a nice place for a cappuccino and a tea for me...
Castle Hill Budapest...
Remains of the Blessed Virgin and Saint Sigismund Royal Chapel erected on about 1410 near Castle Hill
Castle Hill with its mythical Turul bird (left).
Passing with our bus by the Chain Bridge, Clark Adám tér, that connected Buda and Pest
The bus passing along Batthyány tér driving across Parliament Building
Zoomed out across the Danube River with the Parliament Building
Taken from the Budapest V. kerúlet district across the River Danube
Another spectacular view from across the River Danube
Loved the Hungarian flag waving proudly above and in front of Buda Castle, Hungary's Royal Palace.
Such a RICH history to explore in the capital of Budapest or Buda and Pest
Sad that we did NOT stop for the Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe and the second largest synagogue in the world!
Budapest district VII kerület
One more spectacular building near our Párisi Udvar Hotel where we returned for lunch...
You just can see the Dome from the St. Stephen's Basilica, Budapest's largest Church!
What a dream it would have been for listening to the organ there...
We could have spent a lot more time strolling around!
This is a short Relive video from our Morning Walk with husband Pieter through Budapest
Hope you enjoyed this little tour...

Hello Mariette, Thank you for this tour of the monuments of Budapest. The Matthias Church is beautiful, and the parliament building is vastly impressive. And everything seems to be clean and in good condition. Things do last for centuries or millennia when you take pride in them.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, it looks like Hungary is doing rather well in every way and things are being taken care of.
Such a pleasure to view ancient buildings that are still standing and being used.
Wish that here in the USA they would take more pride in certain buildings. We lost a beautiful Court House locally... SAD decisions!
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,

ReplyDeleteDearest Monique,
DeleteThis were dream days and the hotel selected by Viking was superb!
Yes, they are masters in every detail and no doubt, on our own we could never achieve such a trip!

Mariette
Hi Mariette! There are both beautiful and decorative buildings.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, the architecture one finds in Budapest is incredible!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette; Good Morning from Japan. Yes, outstanding architecture; especially I always wish to enjoy inside of the church ;-) Thank you very much for the very impressive view ♫♫♫
ReplyDeleteLots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
Dearest Miyako,
DeleteThank you very much for your words and one can only admire the inside of such impressive, more than 1,000 year old Churches.
Wish we could have heard its organ play!
Hugs,
Mariette
Liefs,
Mariette
It look Beautiful in Budapest. Thank you for your nice Words on My blogg. Have a Nice Day. Hugs Nina
ReplyDeleteDearest Nina,
DeleteYou are quite welcome and Budapest is so beautiful, it requires another visit for getting to see all that we would want to see...
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tour and I like the Relive video. Interesting how it has the location and then the pictures pop up. Budapest is a lovely place.
I would like to have the cappuccino that Pieter is enjoying. My husband would take the tea.
Happy Sunday - Betsy
Dearest Betsy,
DeleteYes, this Relive.cc app is a great FREE tool. You can also have a paid version with more options but this works great.
It automatically adds your photos taken and places them in the right spot.
Budapest is a beautiful city where we would have spent some more days on our own, quietly exploring more like some of its 7 Holocaust Memorials.
Such a rich history and great architecture to be found.
So happy for the people of Hungary with a stable economy and a PM that is willing to protect his country; he sure learned from history.
Well, years ago I too would go for the cappuccino but it keeps me way to hyper if I drink any coffee past noon...
Hugs,
Mariette
PS the happy Sunday did not exist for both of us as we received the tiding from my brother that Dad is no longer with us: http://bit.ly/2J49iZH
Thank you for the tour, Mariette. Seeing these historic buildings is such a treat! View from Fishermen's Bastion is really spectacular. And I love the view of parliament building with the river!
ReplyDeleteThe video was really fun to watch :-) Thank you for sharing xo
Have a wonderful new week, Mariette, and happy July!
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteYour quite welcome and believe me, Budapest is a treat in architectural beauty and culture.
I've added now the full bus tour video below the walking part around the Fishermen's Bastion.
Hugs,
Mariette
I loved the area and monuments around Fishermen's Bastion. This was a great reminder of our trip to Budapest in May last year.
ReplyDeleteDearest Sami,
DeleteOh, how I loved your post of May last year and it did probably make up our minds for going back to Budapest one more time together! So happy we did and for you to relive fond memories of your own.
You covered far more by walking than we did, Pieter no longer is able to do that but we love what we got covered!
Hugs,
Mariette

DeleteSo happy that you too got to see this marvelous city of Budapest!

Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of Buda and Pest. We departed right in front of the Parliament building on a river cruise a few years ago.
So sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. Not easy saying goodbye to a parent. You have written about your parents before...but please write a tribute to your Dad so we can learn more about him. Hugs of comfort.l.Janey
Dearest Janey,
DeleteSo you too have fond memories of it from recent times. It is a joy to see the improvements since 1996, our previous visit.
We had a rather tough trip for those 29 days and also very emotional in many ways. Pieter's final trip to The Netherlands and for Dad, I knew it would be FINAL.
After I finish this trip I will write some more about my Parents and also a tribute to my Dad - be patient please!
Hugs,
Mariette
May not always tell you, but so happy when you take time to visit my blog world. I traveled a lot of places, but never got to Budapest. May you find peace in the loss of your father knowing others understand.
ReplyDeleteDearest LV.,
DeleteGlad that this way you also managed to see something of beautiful Budapest!
Yes, the goal of our journey this time was primarily to see Dad one more time and we paid him several visits.
Guess our final goodbye was a perfect one.
Hugs,
Mariette
I enjoyed your beautiful photos very much as the refreshened my memories of the lovey places I had visited in Budapest. I wish I could go back again, some day!!!
ReplyDeleteMany hugs!!!!!
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteYes, it certainly does refresh our minds and brings back those very special memories.
We're so happy to see the improvements in Budapest in general as it is a spectacular city in regard to architecture.
Now it is a free nation with a good leader, they can prosper!
Oh, I too would love to go back there any time...
Hugs,
Mariette
Really love these old cities with so much to offer visitors. Exactly the reason why my husband now wants to explore this corner of the world. Thanks for sharing all the beauty on your journey.
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteOh, Budapest is a city one never tires of. Its unique architecture with a blend of many cultures makes it a treasure.
Happy to see they are taking well care of their buildings and are restoring even more.
Your husband will find himself at home here with a melting pot of architecture.
Glad you enjoyed our journey!
Hugs,
Mariette
