Do YOU eat with Chopsticks?

Being in Asia, I really do feel like a fish in a bowl!
Eating with chopsticks at restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia...

Artful dessert waiting for us to finish our meal.

  1. What a delightful experience, Mariette! I've never gotten the hang of chopsticks, and doubt I ever will, but kudos to you for mastering the technique.
    Blessings!

To me it always has been a joy to eat with chopsticks and it feels like second nature.

  3. Dear Mariette - we spent several weeks in China in the 1980s and it was there that I had to learn how to hold and eat with chopsticks. I did buy a few pairs to bring home with us which are beautifully decorated, but I can't say that we ever use them now.

    1. Dearest Rosemary,
It is easily learned and knowing that the vast majority of people do eat with them, stimulates us. In Japan they use the shorter version, equally well to use. We too have lacquered and beautiful decorated chopsticks that Pieter did bring back from China when he went there with the People to People Citizen Ambassador Program. Also Campbell Soup used to have fancy chopsticks with their Le Menu, special Oriental Food. Sadly they discontinued that.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. Oh, I do like that skirt and your shoes! :-)

I've tried, on occasion, to eat with chopsticks but haven't yet mastered it. My fingers don't seem to want to work properly. LOL.

    1. Dearest Kim,
Thank you and I have held on to those; you bet!
Feeling oh so blessed with very agile fingers, due to maybe my ten-finger typing obtained from Scheidegger, Switzerland and lots of knitting, crocheting and picking mushrooms.
      Hugs,

That is wonderful and also for the little ones, it does make it rather easy when traveling!

  7. Hello Mariette, Naturally living here I am fairly well used to chopsticks. A good way to get skill that I learned earlier from Asian friends in Cleveland is to pick glass marbles out of a bowl of water, using plastic or metal chopsticks. I am always afraid of those hot towels--the majority of them are perfumed!

    1. Dearest Jim,
You sure will have mastered that all the way and picking up glass marbles from water is probably the ultimate test!
Love those hot towels and even if they are perfumed, it is just some alcohol with a fragrance that will evaporate rather quickly. I've adapted that custom here at home with some French Yves Delorme white cotton terry facecloth in a lotus woven edge and sprayed with Gardenia Linen Spray.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

No it's not, only for the first time but with some practice you manage as already do the majority of all people in this world!

  12. Nunca he comido con palillos, aunque a mi hija he visto hacerlo.

      Abrazos,

  14. We usually use a fork and spoon for our daily meals at home if we are having rice. I only use chopsticks for noodles. And spaghetti too!
I am impressed with your many skills, dearest Mariette.

Yes, that was used in Indonesia for our daily lunches with the staff but in restaurants we got the chopsticks. Both work well for me.
