Outside view of this beautiful hotel Raya Bromo in the Tengger Mountains near Mount Bromo...
The hotel is at some 900 m or 2953 feet altitude.
Breakfast at the Raya Bromo hotel on our first morning before going to work...
Heavenly fragrant Tuberose in a vase.
This was the name in 1996 when we stayed there.
Now it has changed into Whiz Capsule Hotel Grand Bromo, Jl. Raya Bromo, Sukapura, Probolinggo, East Java
Lots of young people that stay there for the sunrise (3:00 departure from Whiz Capsule Hotel Grand Bromo...) at Mount Bromo sleep in such an ultra modern capsule!
We always stayed in their Deluxe room with balcony...
In 1997 on August 9 when we arrived there from Central Java, at check in by 14:00, they told us that my brother Jan Van den Munckhof and his wife Wilma were in our adjacent room; they had arrived there!
WHAT a surprise that was.
Made them coffee with bread (that we bought in Jakarta at the Hyatt Aryaduta hotel) cheese, corned beef (made from mushrooms and 20% beef!), marmelade and Dutch Evergreens that I'd purchased at Amsterdam Airport... They ate like wolves; they had been up at 3:00 for the sunrise at Mount Bromo and also to walk to the crater...
Pieter treated all of us on a Nasi Bromo for supper!
We spent the weekend together and I also did escort them with our personal driver to Surabaya where they stayed one night before departure to Brunei.
Seen from above...
We loved to walk in their beautiful tropical garden.
This was on our 13th Wedding Anniversary and luckily that was a Sunday!
Such a beautiful area for walking...
A happy Pieter as he always loved Indonesia so much! So do I...
Pieter's two older brothers were stationed here, while in the Military and in the Marine and Pieter was not allowed to go there; not more than 2 at a time from one family!
Happily married... a blissful relationship in paradise!
A relaxed lunch together after walking the area...
Our 13th Wedding Anniversary lunch, with Tuberose again.
On our balcony...
Crocheting on a fine curtain with peacocks for a friend...
Using the final daylight!
Before 5:00 the day starts and ends early too.
View of the mountains just before the evening...
Next day we will rise early for going up the mountains to the mushroom project.

ReplyDeleteDearest Janey,
DeleteVery true and it just happened to be on our day off from work; we enjoyed our walk.
Hugs,
Mariette
Wow, what an impressive place, Mariette, and perfect for celebrating an anniversary. You both do look so happy!
ReplyDeleteDearest Martha Jane,
DeleteIt was a very impressive place and beautiful nature around us. We walked also to the nearby volcano crater.
Those were the perks in-between a demanding job of consulting work far away and in a different language; at least for me always, the staff most times managed English to communicate with Pieter.
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely memories and photos;-))
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteYes, such great bonus moments in-between our job over there!
Hugs,
Mariette
Una vacanza in un hotel molto bello!Tu e Pieter siete come 2 ragazzini, buon pomeriggio!
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
DeleteMi scusi ma non eravamo in vacanza ma lavoravamo. Questa era di domenica, il nostro giorno libero!
Abbracci,
Mariette
What a lovely place and memories of happiness.
ReplyDeleteGod bless always.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteThank you and yes, we really loved working in that part of the world!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, I agree with the other commenters--you and Pieter look especially relaxed and happy in these photos. I assumed that being in the mountains moderated some of the tropical heat. From its meaning in English, any place named Bromo (as in Bromo-Seltzer) doesn't sound like the greatest place to have a meal!
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, we both were quite happy whenever we were working/living or staying in Indonesia during our consulting weeks. The climate was indeed pleasant in the mountains.
Bromo is only named after the Stratovolcano Bromo which is closeby.
Hugs,
Mariette
Such a nice place and lovely memories
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteThat sure was a lovely place and we're fortunate for having walked that Sunday and for taking some photos. Lovely memories forever!
Hugs,
Mariette
It's not easy to start a mushroom project in a tropical area. You two have been vigorous and dedicated.
ReplyDeleteDearest RTC,
DeleteWe both did not start it but guided it and trained its staff and harvesters. Keep in mind that higher in the mountains it is always more favorable. We call that the Lord's airconditioning.
The hotel was at a lower level. Next post will be about our 40 km ride up to higher altitudes where the mushroom farm was situated.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Pfingstgrüsse zurück and dir und deine Lieben,
Mariette
Good memories.
ReplyDeleteCoisas de Feltro
Dearest Christina,
DeleteYes, those are now priceless memories! So happy we've worked and lived there.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette che vita avventurosa e movimentata avete avuto tu e il tuo caro marito Pieter. Siete una coppia stupenda.
ReplyDeleteVi abbraccio forte, Lorena
Cara Lorena,
DeleteSì, possiamo guardare indietro a ricordi meravigliosi e molte avventure. Non molte coppie hanno lavorato insieme come partner, come abbiamo fatto noi e ci è piaciuto molto.
Abbracci,
Mariette
Bellissimo così... Abbracci, Lorena
