Mums as Happy Pot Plants

Even though when I came here I did not like Mums—due to the fact that in The Netherlands they were typical Cemetery flowers...
Now we both LOVE them!

Detail from photo taken on September 8.
Already Happy inside their new pot atop the stump of our Dogwood tree.
On September 19, they had really opened up beautifully!
On September 20, they were joined by some new Mums in a larger pot... more in the ochre color.
Those are in a larger pot, placed on a big paver.
No doubt those will open up fully and look even more stunning!
These are the ones from the first picture, fully opened by now on September 20.
We view them from our breakfast area in the morning sunshine.
View from above—those Mums are really GIVERS!
The ochre Mums on September 29 on a dark and dreary day when hurricane Ian was affecting our weather...
With sadness I made this picture this morning on October 6...
Just as blogger friend Helen from Poetry Matters ←(click it) wrote that the deer ate all blooms at her neighbors!

      Mariette

Yes, yellow is a happy color and it has this special meaning—YELLOW: health in body and mind, love of man and the sun, connection to the God form.

  5. The mums look terrific, Mariette. Mums were always a cemetery flower for me too, so they're not my favourite, but I've come to like them as fall decor. :-)

    1. Dearest Kim,
So, Canada also followed the Dutch tradition in having mums for cemetery flower.
Finally after that many years, we both don't mind the thought and really appreciate them for their beauty and blooming loyalty.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  6. Liebe Lony,
    Mariette

  8. Hi, Mariette and Pieter!
Those mums are gorgeous! Here in Portugal, we associate French Marigolds and Carnations with cemetery flowers, but some people also use mums when they clean and renew the flowers in their loved ones graves.
They are beautiful and although they aren't associated with Fall in Portugal as much as they are in the States, I think it's a tradition that is worth keeping!
    :)

    1. Dearest Paula,
Thank you and maybe over time they too will get included in Fall decorations in Portugal.
We by now are used to their Fall beauty and for being used around the home as is common here in the USA!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  10. Yellow flowers give that joy, don't they? Maybe it's because they resemble the sun.

  13. Lovely cheerful yellows mums - I love them too as they bring color to the now fading garden. We always grew them in England but I think in France they are also 'cemetery flowers' .
I found some really pretty plants at LIDL last week - "tri-color" mums, yellow, pale orange and pink planted together in one pot - and at only 2/$12 they were a bargain. Savings went toward the cashmere sweater, hahahahah!!!!!!
Sorry you don't have a TJMaxx nearby - you would be amazed at their designer 'Runway' section - all that was missing were some Escada beauties which I know you and I always loved Mariette!

We're traveling to New England soon so will need warmer clothes. Enjoy the upcoming weekend - lovely weather here and hoping you have similar.
    Hugs, Mary

    1. Dearest Mary,
So maybe that fondness for mums came across from England... Not mainland Europe as it sounds.
As for flowers we always love them in one color, never mixed—that to us is very American.
But Lidl indeed has spectacular offerings!
We do have a TJ Maxx locally but it does not compare with the ones in Atlanta or in your big city!
Enjoy the New England fall colors—stay warm and have a wonderful trip.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  14. Those are big and beautiful Mums - mine sure don't look like that this year. I'm thinking that outrageous heat we had a couple of weeks ago, stunted them. We'll see. They're not dead yet.

    1. Dearest Debby,
Don't think they prefer heat... We have had hot weather too but they get watered from our outside pump with hose.
Hoping they survive in your garden!
