{Table Setting versus Table Scape}

  • One of my most popular books is that of Peri Wolfman and Charles Gold: The Perfect Setting
  • It is a beautiful hardcover with lots of great tips on how to create a perfect setting by using mis-matched pieces of china, silverware and crystal. It opens a world of ideas for anyone and the good thing is that it also gives great recipes as well!
  • If you click the hyperlink above, you will get to a source where it still is available and I can only highly recommend it!

  • Forks Knives & Spoons is also by Peri Wolfman and Charles Gold
  • The authors were the owners of Wolfman, Gold & Good Company, a New York City tableware store, for nearly 20 years.
  • Wolfman is now in-house director of product development for Williams-Sonoma.
  • Gold is a recognized food and still-life photographer; his work has appeared in House & Garden, Vogue, Gourmet, and other national magazines.
  • Peri Wolfman and Charles Gold live in New York City.
  • Southern Lady
  • GRACIOUS TABLES
  • {THE PERFECT SETTINGS FOR ALL OCCASIONS}
  • One of my favorite books!

  • Victoria
  • AT TABLE
  • with FAMILY & FRIENDS
  • another favorite

  • My all time favorite magazine SOUTHERN ACCENTS also wrote under Gracious Living aboutTable Settings.
  • But WHY is it than that so many people follow the sudden hype of using Tablescape instead of the correct term of Table Setting?
  • That has puzzled me for quite a while... maybe the following explains it:
  • Coins make sound when dropped, but paper bills won’t.
  • Lesson: “When your value increases, keep yourself silent and humble.”

  • Search on Microsoft's Bing yielded 37,100 results for tablescape

  • Search on Microsoft's Bing yielded 286,000,000 for Table Setting

Search on Yahoo yielded 35,300 on tablescape

  • Search on Yahoo yielded 619,000,000 on Table Setting

I have done all those searches on August 24th.
Okay, I guess I have done my homework and can rest my case...

  2. In this world of technology, there are all kinds of new terms coming up -- some I've never heard before. All the acronyms take a bit of getting used to.

    Have a wonderful weekend. Tammy

  3. Hi Mariette,
tablesetting is coming into vogue again here. Since people start to cook and host guests again, they need these skills again. The books look really lovely.
    Best greetings, Johanna

  6. Oh my dearest Mariette, you always have such wonderful informative (not to mention - lovely) recommendations! These look absolutely great, and for those of us who have been out of guest hosting for far to long (almost 5 years next month), these are perfect to get the creative juices flowing. merci!

I was catching up on your post below and I certainly need to work on 2, 6 and 7.

Wishing you and Pieter a wonderful autumn week-end!! many hugs and blessings across the miles xo HHL

P.S. I think they call it tablescape, perhaps because they only "create"the setting and not actually entertain or serve food.
I'm looking forward to entertaining and working on my table setting for friends, family and extended family...xo

  9. Liebe Mariette,
ich bin immer wieder begeister von den schön gedeckten Tafeln, die du uns zeigst. Ich kaufe mir hin und wieder ein Zeitschrift, in der es auch um schön gedeckte Tische geht.
    Einen wunderschönen Abend wünscht

  14. Hi, Mariette. I had never heard the word "tablescape" before blogging either! When I first came upon it, I thought maybe it meant that people were doing table settings, just for 'show' and not really setting them up for an actual meal... like an "escape" for fun, if that makes sense! :)
I DO wish I had all of your lovely books... I'm sure there are many gorgeous table settings shown in each one!
    Best,
    Gloria
