As you all know by now, I love ROSES and ANGELS. Or CHERUBS, PUTTI, whatever you name them! Here I like to show you some beautiful pieces from Italy, by Conrad Moroder ←click link. Neiman Marcus sold these in their catalog and I did copy that page, as I fell in love with them. You can click on Conrad Moroder's link above, for going to their website.
They reside in our living room year round—not only for Christmas...
These are large ones and quite pricey but gorgeous!
Always realizing that they are HAND carved from wood in South Tyrol, Italy during their long winter months.
Or in Austria or South Germany.
Having lived in Italy we know which area they are created, we drove through quite often.
They are also hand painted and actual 24 carat gold is being used on them as well!
Do you love them?
Christie's is showing here a South German Parcel-Gilt and Polychrome 18th century angel ←(click link) of about the same size, that sold at triple Neiman Marcus' price.
A South German Giltwood and Polychrome Cherub Head Mask late 17th or early 18th century...←click link.
A Pair of Carved Wood Angels North European, 19th Century... ←click link.
Carved and stained wood cherub, 20th century... ←click link.
Hope you enjoyed this kind of museum tour through Christie's auctions.
You find such baroque style Angels | Cherubs | Putti, all over in Italy, Austria and South Germany in Churches and Cathedrals. For those of you that cannot travel I thought it is great for showing them here. Also on my Zen Cart powered on line boutique Mariette's Back to Basics, I do have some Antique Italian Angels, Cherubs, Putti... for quite a different price; see further links below.

ReplyDeletethanks for letting me have a glimpse of them...!
Dearest Jyothisethu,
DeleteYes I guess any handwork that beautiful will gain in value over 200 years of time. Thought such a museum tour is enjoyable for my readers; as I enjoy it myself. Only to look, not being able to afford such pieces! But I did find some affordable ones and put them on my boutique on line.
Enjoy this special season and warmest regards,
Mariette
I have a set almost exactly like the large ones,
DeleteDearest Angel lover,
DeleteThey sure are beautiful and will last a life time and even become heirlooms.
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh sweet Mariette, what a fabulous collection of puttis, wow, from Christies! Expensive, but not so bad either, being they're such exquisite antiques. Thank you for sharing and making me SWOON!! Happy holidays, pretty lady.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Ohhhh these are absolutely lovely!! The Godchildren love the Angels we were fortunate to acquire from your boutique. They say the Angels protect them ... Mariette, you always provide wonderful insight and background to treasures from a time long ago. And thankfully for those of us who either do not travel or were not at the right place at the right time... You share some wonderful pieces in your boutique. Merci mon ami.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, C. (HHL)
Dearest Celia,
DeleteIt is people like you who have traveled the world who know the value of things. So glad you got to buy those two vintage Italian Cherub heads. May they always watch over you as you've gone through enough already. But you keep amazing others and are so encouraging!
Bises mon ami,
Mariette
They are all so beautiful Mariette!

Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeletethose angels and Cherubs are wonderful! Thanks for showing us!
I had to look twice, when I noticed the prices for them.....
Wishing you a wonderful 3rd Advent-Weekend!
Love and hugs
Claudia
I am a Cherubaholic, and have them everywhere, but none as posh as these beauties. The first two are divine. x
ReplyDeleteAdoro i cherubini o puttini o angeli!Bello il tuo all'inizio del blog!Baci e buon fine settimana!Rosetta
ReplyDeleteHallo Mariette,
ReplyDeleteI love angels.....12 days to go....love from me...xxx...
ReplyDeleteDearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteYou taought me "ANGELS, CHERUBS, PUTTI" are the same for me before♡♡♡ They are lovely and must sure bring us happiness.
I hope your 3rd Advent-Weekend will be marvelous one☆☆☆
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
I can appreciate them, but have never really liked cherubs. Often the workmanship is wonderful though, the gilding so delicate and bright. I have a slightly different vision of Angels, and prefer the full bodied, slightly scary, awesomeness of Archangels.
ReplyDeleteThose are all absolutely gorgeous cherubs Mariette! Like you, I'm in love with all things cherub:) But wow, you're not kidding about them being pricey! Way out of my budget! Thank you for sharing such gorgeous pics, we can always dream right?
ReplyDeleteVictoria, I usually cannot afford such antique pieces of over 200 years and that kind of beauty. But I love to look at them and that's what I liked to share with my readers. We have some at home but they are newly bought in Germany and by far not as large as the ones at Christie's. Knowing that over time they gain in value is a good feeling. And on my boutique I do offer some antique ones too, far better priced.
DeleteHugs to you and never give up dreaming!
Mariette
Oh wow these are totally gorgeous, just like you I loveeeee cherubs ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays my friend....
Mari
Dearest Mariette, These angels are so gorgeous and executed so beautifully. Yes, they are pricey but one must expect to pay for quality of this sort. What a great addition to one's collection. Thanks again, for introducing us to the many treasures you found during you travels.
ReplyDeleteLove to you, Ginger
Prachtige engelen, alleen wel prijzig.
ReplyDeleteFijn weekend.
Lieve groet, Mea
Lieve groetjes,
DeleteMariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteOh I love them much.. so precious and unique.
these are really masterpieces.perfect on the vintage sideboard.
but...so pricey..out of my budget too ;(
very nice to know this carving .
have a nice day
