Zephyranthes flowers are very similar to Habranthus flowers and both are called Rain Lilies. Zephyranthes flowers tend to be star shaped and Habranthus have somewhat irregular flowers. Read more in detail below post under Zephyranthes.
Also our Zephyranthes Candida Rain Lily, commonly called Fairy Lily is a member of the Amaryllidaceae family. Blogger friend Sarah from HYACINTHS FOR THE SOUL did show us her Habranthus Rain Lily in pink. Just scroll down on her blog.
Our Zephyranthes Candida is native to Argentina and Uruguay
Here I did arrange them in a silver vase on a tray and also showing you two buds and two of its leaves in the back.
They do look a bit like Crocus... and are also a flower bulb.
On a tray in the gazebo in daylight.
Zephyranthes flowers point straight up and have equal stamens.
Habranthus flowers point upward BUT at an angle and have unequal stamens.
Here you can actually count the 6 equal stamens.
Lovely greenish center...
All photos are taken on August 29, when we had our first summer tea in the gazebo after cleaning up the mud.
In the back you see our pond...
Proof of sunshine after all our summer rain!
This is at 18:00 o'clock...

ReplyDeleteyours are beautiful. :)
Dearest Theresa,
DeleteThat is so true! Wish you would have some of our moisture. Still muddy here as the soil is so saturated. Hope you soon will get some so things can balance back to normal...
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeletethe Rain Lilly is wonderful! I do not have any of this kind in my garden, don't know, if they would grow here.
Have a wonderful and happy weekend,
Love and hugs
Claudia
Dearest Claudia,
DeleteGuess it will be too cold for them in your region. We live at a latitude of North Africa so that is quite a difference.
Wishing you too a very happy weekend!
Hugs,
Mariette
Certainly do not have such blooms here. Heat has returned after a week of humidity and a couple of days of dust. My balconies are awful right now and the plants need lots of tlc. Have a fabulous Friday! Tammy
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteOh your region is quite different from our vegetation... Sorry to hear you are going through one more of those dust periods again.
Hope your Friday was lovely so far.
Hugs,
Mariette
This is so precious, pick up these tender, lovely Lillys ...and this gazebo is gorgeous Mariette! How lucky you are, to be surrounded from a garden and a nature like yours! No rain here, no blooms.I have no colors in my garden now except the bougainvillaes but they are already loosing their leaves and flowers.

Beste Marianne,

A presto Paola
ReplyDeleteCara Paola,
DeleteQuesti sono anche i bulbi come Crocus ma solo fioriscono in estate tarda. Essi sono dalla famiglia Amarilli. Una dolce sorpresa alla fine dell'estate e mi è piaciuto condividerle con voi!
Baci,
Mariette
Those are so pretty Mariette! I wish I had some of those in my garden.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful weekend!
xo Catherine
Dearest Catherine,
DeleteThey are a lovely surprise for late summer indeed but I guess they don't thrive in colder regions as they are from the Amaryllis family...
Hugs,
Mariette

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. Hopefully we will have sunny weekend :-)
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteOh, certain little bulbs can grow into a lovely surprise for late summer, that's what I like about them. Being from the Amaryllis family and blooming so unexpectedly late in season. Rain lily was an appropriate name for 2013!
Oh, that vase is one I really fell in love with when I bought that in The Netherlands at Things of Beauty...
Wishing you also a very sunny and wonderful weekend!
Hugs,
Mariette

DeleteGrazie, si per tutto l'anno abbiamo fiori. Questi gigli sono dalla famiglia Amarilli e cosi belli.
Baci,
Mariette, I had a single bloom this past week after a sudden afternoon rain. I hope to plant more within my herb garden as they seem to do well in the gravel bed. They are such sweet surprises!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have your beautiful gazebo to enjoy tea time. The beautiful silver vase is a perfect vessel for the delicate rain lilies. Thank you for sharing and thank you for the shout out. ~ Sarah
Dearest Sarah,
DeleteYou are quite welcome for the shout out! When you showed them on your blog, ours had not even bloomed. So this was a very pleasant surprise, right after the heavy rain. Thanks for also complimenting our silver 'rose' vase.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hoi Mariette,
Liefs,
Mariette
