Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Mushroom Cultivation Education. Packing up and delivering the DUTCH FLOWER BULBS sold during Summer

Yes, that too, I've tried!

Helping out a Dutch born friend with a large family, who dealt in Dutch Flower Bulbs.

So during the summer of 1985, I went by bike to the homes in the neighborhood. and tried to sell them Dutch Flower Bulbs.

Most people thought I was a Highschool student but I was NOT.

Inside our garage. Yes, our garage was tiled with the leftover tiles from the mushroom plant, that Pieter designed for Campbell Soup.

It was November 2, when we got to package the bulbs, according to the list, with amounts ordered, and starting to deliver them.

Quite a job!

Of course, husband Pieter helped me out as well!

My life never has been boring though!

Each time you learn from whatever you do.

In March of 1986, we too had some of those tulips show up in our garden...

  1. No, your life certainly hasn't ever been boring, from the posts I've read on your blog. 😁

That was a lot of bulbs, but probably fun to do, even with all the work it took.

Take care, I'm keeping your Barty in my thoughts and prayers. ❤️🙏

Never ever boring indeed. Know how to write the word in seven languages but truly don't know its real feeling! Barty is at peace...

  3. Tulips from Amsterdam. What a wonderful and pleasant job that you did. I bet people enjoyed planting the tulips.

    God bless.

    1. Dearest Victor,
Yes, they came from the Amsterdam region where most flower bulbs are being grown.
A variety of different bulbs but indeed, people enjoyed them very much; so did we.

  4. Hello Mariette, When something needed to be done, it looks like the slogan was "Let Mariette and Pieter do it!" Still, it is super rewarding to do things for people. A long time ago, we could have used some of those bulbs. My mother planted some bulbs in front of our house, but all that came up was one enormous, deformed white tulip, the Frankenstein's monster of the tulip world. We do not possess green thumbs in my family!

    1. Dearest Jim,
Well, we never shied away from helping someone out and enjoyed doing so as well. It is rewarding. As with bulbs they have to be fresh, not an old stock of bulbs as that could cause some strange growth. It has to be from a trustworthy source.
Money is not meant for putting into the ground, in vain...

Well, if you live being willing to mean something to another person, that requires a lot of your time but gives also lots of satisfaction.
Tulips can look wonderful but grow best in cooler/colder climates and the voles love the bulbs...
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  11. Hi Mariette -
I always purchase my bulbs from a Dutch grower and have had great success - SOME years! Others not so good when we had a serious vole problem, and when the squirrels find them. The latter enjoy biting off the heads of the beautiful blooms and that really makes me cry!

I now grow mostly narcissi - less costly, they naturalize easily, are hardy, and the wildlife leave them alone thankfully!

Enjoy your weekend now the storms have blown away!
    Mary -

    1. Dearest Mary,
We have had a few years of a spectacular show with the double Angélique and Mount Tacoma tulips but they are are gone; eaten by the voles!
Yes, all the narcissi bulbs are kind of poisonous to the voles... Sad facts.
We had some very spooky wind, our three big pots will beautiful mums got blown off the retainer wall...
      Hugs,
      Mariette
