Our Camellia Japonica Debutante in Winter

All through winter we do have blooming flowers!
Such a JOY to see this!
Camellia Japonica Debutante is a GEM.
On December 8, 2021...
Pieter captured these on the iPhone
Such a prolific blooming Camellia!
Here you see a few Camellia Japonica Debutante in a pottery jug.
Our Spunky girl is sitting on a chair and looking towards us.
Yes, we had home baked waffles with frozen cherries from Costco, unsweetened shredded coconut and Coconut cream from Trader Joe's.
Roses were given by my choir director after practice on January 5...
A stunning Camellia Japonica Debutante with a bud next to it, in the afternoon sun...
The top and bottom photos were taken on January 9, 2022.

Do you have any Camellias?

  1. Ooohhh Mariette, these are stunning! I've never personally grown camellias, but I can clearly remember my mama's from my growing up years. They were always so beautiful. I've long forgotten the names she told me, but I can sure see them in my mind. Hugs, my friend!

    1. Dearest Diana,
Especially this Camellia Debutante is a dream!
Glad you grew up knowing their beauty and there are so many varieties and colors.
Your Mom must have loved them as much as we do.
      Hugs,

  3. Your Camellia Japonica Debutante is a beauty and really lovely to see her covered in flowers.
I was interested in the fact that you used coconut cream on your waffles which I have never seen before. I use coconut milk in various recipes so now I must watch out for the cream. Does it come in a spray can?

    1. Dearest Rosemary,
Thank you and yes it is a beauty; true to her name.
Here at Trader Joe's (for which we must drive one–way two hours, they have the coconut cream in a spray can in the cold section with the milk. Also coconut creamer for use in coffee. We really love using this Coconut Whipped Topping for the last couple of years.

  4. They're beautiful, Mariette. What a joy it must be to live somewhere with blooms all year round. ♥

I'm happy to live in Canada, wouldn't want to live anywhere else but the UK, but oh my gosh, I hate, hate, hate our climate. LOL.

    1. Dearest Kim,
Thank you and they are a joy in winter time, however short that is here in the South.
Your climate is really harsh, so why not try to move? But moving to the UK, you would leave your Mom and Dad behind...

Those Camellias are winter treasures that is for sure.
Spunky girl, like the other kitties love my homemade waffles with the added oat bran. A dear blogger friend from What Else Is Possible once mentioned adding that to the dough of pancakes/waffles...😉

  8. Ah, your Camellia Japonica is absolutely beautiful, one of my favourite flowers. It really is a joyful little bush, but alas we have been unsuccessful in growing one here. I think it might be too humid for them. Your cherry waffles are a delightful treat!

  11. Hello Mariette, It must be at least as warm here as where you live, but I don't see such stunning flowers growing. The parks seem to be all green (which I like, too!). The other day I was walking by a "flowering" hedge, that had only a few half-hearted flowers. I miss the wide-open spaces!

Your region at latitude 25 versus ours at 32, should have such blooms. Sorry for you and as for the wide–open spaces that is missing there as well. Hoping you can return home for making good on that!

When we first moved into this home, a late friend of ours did bring a beautiful basket with foam and camellia flower arrangement. We fell in love with them and started looking for Camellia shrubs. We obviously selected some good ones.

  17. Your Camellias are beautiful, Mariette. They are such a grand flower. When I saw the big bush in front of Nel's house, I couldn't help but stop and gaze at them for awhile. They are BIG and sturdy, and it looks like your Camellias are a similar color to hers. Your waffles with cherries and cream look amazing. Would love to try them sometime.

Have a blessed week in the new year, Mariette. Thank you for sharing your Camellia post with me.
