On Saturday, March 9, 1985 we left from the Santa Cruz, California area where we'd stayed for three nights at the home of mushroom friends Don and Donna Richardson.
See post below.
Me standing in front of the then Sheraton Harbor Island East Hotel.
Now it is called Sheraton San Diego Hotel And Marina...
We stayed in room 408 and checked in for our 5-night stay for the 5th North American Mushroom Conference where Pieter would be a speaker on the 12th.
View from our room...
We did walk around and then enjoyed a Mexican dinner.
Wearing my hand knitted, hand embroidered cardigan—see link below post.
On Sunday, March 10 we had breakfast at 8:00 and by 10:00 we met with Pieter's Dutch friend Chris van Zon and walked together.
In the distance you see San Diego

Chris captured both of us next to this boat for sale...

See below post about that trip—our first to México...

Enjoyed your blast to the past. I know these places well. My husband was stationed in San Diego. My dad had a cousin who lived in San Diego and we’d go down to visit and he’d take us over the border to Tijuana. My mom bought some of those pots and a Venus Di Milo statue. I never liked that statue. Anyway, enjoyed your post. Oh if you go over to my blog, I took a photo of some pretty fungus that was growing on a tree.
ReplyDeleteI do hope and pray that each day finds you in less pain and getting better.
Dearest Debby,
DeleteThis was a very special memory for both of us—our first trip to San Diego, followed by more.
I have a dear friend in Escondido, so that is not far away.
When flying, we always were very limited in carrying home what we would have liked to. So no pots for us...
Yes, the pain is a lot less and I'm starting to sleep and rest better the past couple of days.
Got a nasty rash on my leg, above back of knee—from that hated knee immobilizer... It will be something when I can do without that torture tool!
And my hair is falling out from the Medrol Dosepak (Prednisone)... but it sure worked well for all the swelling!
Hugs,
Mariette
Bellissimi ricordi grazie!

DeleteSicuramente sono stati bellissimi ricordi per entrambi!

San Diego, a beautiful city. My son lives in the county of San Diego and I visit there every other year. Although, I was a mom raising my first child in 85, my son was not even born then! lol....However, I had visited that area as a child. I was born in Calif and shortly after we moved to San Diego.
ReplyDeleteDearest Pam,
DeleteSo you have memories of San Diego!
We both loved going there.
Hugs,
Mariette
I love the memories you share here, Mariette. Blessings!

Bloody nice photos, you have had a bloody good life
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteThank you and yes, we've lived a worthwhile life and never dodged to go the extra mile.
Being able to lecture for a worldwide crowd—amongst them many mushroom friends, is very special. Fond memories remain!
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely photos of beautiful people (you, husband Pieter, friend Chris), and spots in San Diego area!
ReplyDeleteThe deep blue color of the sea is the best possible background to these memorable photos.
Dearest Duta,
DeleteIt were a very special 5 nights at San Diego Harbor Island. Perfect for walking.
Fond memories of relaxing times together.
Hugs,
Mariette
I enjoy your trips back in time ... San Diego is one of my favorite places! Hope you are feeling better today.
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteWe both loved San Diego as well!
Yes, today was somewhat better—though I could not sleep, so I got up again...
Guess I'm just anxious about tomorrow's outcome of my right shoulder's MRI done on March 1.
It takes forever to finally know.
Also WISH I could get rid of that knee immobilizer—torture tool as I call it. So hard to sleep with and it has caused me a nasty skin rash already.
Hugs,
Mariette
Happy memories you shared here, Mariette.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos.
Hugs, blessings and best wishes for a speedy recovery, dearest friend.
Dearest Veronica,
DeleteYes, those are very happy memories for looking back on and reliving.
Got great news that I don't have to wear the knee immobilizer and for my shoulder today I had the MRI results and I don't need surgery—however I also had a fractured Scapula. Need to have physical therapy in order to avoid ending up with a frozen shoulder.
Hugs,
Mariette
This really is indeed great news, Mariette.
DeleteSoon you will be be as right as rain.
Hang in there, dearest friend.
Hugs and blessings

Dearest Travis,
DeleteThat makes me happy knowing that your foot steps lie there also and even better for riding a bike. That is the BEST territory due to no elevation. We loved it indeed very much back in the 80s and also some later years. Have not been back in about 20 years after celebrating my 50th Birthday together with my twin sis—FRIEND! Special memories...
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette
Such amazing photos and memories.
ReplyDeleteDearest Tammy,
DeleteYes, those belong to one of the most favorite for both of us!
Hugs,
Mariette
Your life has been one of work and it's good that you have such beautiful memories.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Dearest Christina,
DeleteIt certainly pays off for having kept a diary and saving things in scrapbooks and then the photos. That way—those stories really do come to life!
We worked hard and intens but the satisfaction of our input has been equally great.
Hugs,
Mariette
