Come Visit us in Indonesia and meet my skilled Couture Seamstress Ms. Yati

In June of  1994, when we were over a 3-week period back in Indonesia, for consulting at the mushroom farm, we arrived from Jakarta in Yogyakarta and then some two hours driving up into the mountains.
At the Guest Bungalow in Kalianget we stayed and were enjoying a leisurely Sunday.

Before dark, we did go to nearby Wonosobo for bringing my sueded silk from Hong Kong to Ms Yati.
She was an excellent couture seamstress from Jakarta and she also knew English.
Due to her aging Mother having dementia, she'd come to rural Central Java as a caregiver...
So that's what we did, dropping off the material, sewing pattern and explaining to her how and such.
That gave her the time for finishing my dress, before we would depart back to the USA.
That's the dress!
Wearing it on a Sunday to Mass and then changing, before heading to the airport for our flight to Amsterdam, The Netherlands, visiting my Parents and Family.
Pieter on the wood trail in our garden in his Burberry summer suit.
Always hard for leaving a perfectly blooming summer garden behind.
Here, Pieter is indulging in the perfume from the Ginger lilies...
Ms. Yati did an excellent job on this sueded silk dress with silk lining from Britex Fabrics in San Francisco, with zipper and silk thread from Britex Notions.
Pieter happy for soon being able to visit with his two brothers and family...
We always looked forward to those trips to The Netherlands; did that 66 times!
Loved the fabric when I touched it in Hong Kong, and loved my choice of dress!

Our Fabulous Vienna Stay with Strauss Concert by Vienna Hofburg Orchestra

On Saturday, September 28 of 1996, upon arrival from Budapest at our Wienerwald hotel, we opted for the optional Strauss Concert by the Vienna Hofburg Orchestra.
A photographer took this photo with us in the center with my black La Perla body under Escada suit...
This was the program but it is all in German...
On Sunday morning right after breakfast we were being transported to the center of Vienna, by bus.
Each of us (those that signed up for this optional tour...) received a lunch bag.
It was me, peaking insight of my bag and I started laughing hilarious at the discovery of a banana with blobs of white gooey stuff on it and a STILL HOT BOILED EGG (the culprit of the molten piece of white chocolate...!).
So our tour guide handled very quick after seeing my drawn-out attributes.
Ladies and gentlemen would you please remove the egg out of your bag, because it is still HOT...
What a hilarious morning with lots of laughter.
Turned out they had a new boy in the kitchen; actually his FIRST day and this happened...
With the sun out, Vienna is lovely with all its terraces.
We teamed up that day with four people from the province of Zeeland, The Netherlands.
We laughed a lot!
The individually wrapped sandwich in our lunch bag proved to be very good!
We enjoyed the many terraces and also a tour of the Opera House.
Such fun statues with empty seat so husband Pieter joined them!
An umbrella can be turned into a weapon – IF needed but this statue did not react to my hand...
Traveling with my favorite The Bridge saddlebag purse.
Pause to give our laugh wrinkles a break!
Pausing with a coffee on one of many terraces...
An American from Limburg and a Dutch woman from Zeeland; two Southern Provinces of The Netherlands...
Such a lovely sunny day!
My Burberry umbrella took care of good weather and my Burberry blazer was only partly being used.
Pieter stepped back to give an overview.
Such a lovely Sunny Sunday!
Still got my Escada jeans skirt...
On Monday we went by bus into the city again.
Me, touching home on a large globe in Prater, Vienna's large Public Park.
On our way home on October 1, lunch with view on the River Danube
From afar...
That's where we had lunch... I'm standing in the center with back towards you.
We stayed for our final night at the Queens hotel in Nürnberg, Germany.
Our final day, October 2nd.
Lunch in Drolshagen, Germany
Lunch, and so ended a wonderful 12–day bus tour from the South of The Netherlands through Germany to Prague  – Budapest – Vienna and back via Germany to Limburg...
Passing through The Netherlands; Germany; Czech Republic; Slovakia; Hungary; Austria; Germany and back into The Netherlands. Of course we flew transatlantic for doing this!

My First Trip to Prague with Pieter

On September 22 of 1996, we both went on a 12–day bus tour from the South of The Netherlands to Prague, Budapest and Vienna.

Arrival in Prague, at our Opatov hotel and enjoying the national drink, a Becherovka
Ready for dinner in my Escada outfit from the Outlet.
The Chanel belt bag proved very handy on this trip. Found it at the Jakarta Chanel boutique.
After dinner we went into the city for enjoying Krizikova Fountain.
This musical fountain got built in 1891
That was quite impressive!
Next day we went to view this 14th Century Gothic Cathedral of Our Lady before Týn, with its 80 m (262 ft) tall spires.
Having my Burberry umbrella on the ready... Wearing my Burberry blazer and Chanel loafers over Escada trousers and top (Outlet treasures!)
This Gothic Cathedral is right on the Old Town Square in Prague.
To the right in a cozy café is where we went for a coffee...
Our coffee stop was most welcome!
The vest I wear here is my own sewing creation...
When I discovered those great Outlets here in the USA, I quit creating my own clothes!
Travel companion Enne de Groot from Texel, The Netherlands was so kind to make a picture of the two of us!
Pieter in his still favorite Burberry shirt, a tax-free find while doing our mushroom consulting work.
After our coffee by 12 noon we went to see the Old Town Hall.
That's where the 12 Apostles come by at those two top windows above the Astronomical Clock known as the Orloj, after their shutters open at the hour.
Old Town Hall got establishes in 1338!
See more here for a 3D virtual tour and Video.
We started our guided walking tour here at the River Moldau
The famous Charles Bridge in Prague that crosses the Vltava River.
Its construction began in 1357 and completed in the 15th Century.
Replacing the previous Judith Bridge, constructed from 1158–1172, that got damaged by a flood in 1342.
On the Charles Bridge, at the copper embossed image of St. John of Nepomuk, the court priest of King Wenceslas IV.
He got tortured and drowned in the River Vltava.
By touching it, you could make a pious wish.
Prague even proves to be beautiful on a very cloudy day...
We enjoyed a knowledgeable guide to walk through the city.
She spoke Dutch and she even picked up that I came from the South, from Limburg; impressive!
It took a few hours, this guided walking tour!
Both of us found in an old alley a cozy restaurant... Pieter looking very happy for finally sharing this fabulous city also with me!
Next day on September 24, we go to the other side of Prague to see the St. Vitus Cathedral and Castle.
Exceptional stained glass work in the St. Vitus Cathedral
This is Art Nouveau style in the Arch Bishop's chapell
Next day we went on our way to Budapest...

Have any of you been to Prague?

Short Suit with Slouch Socks

Coming back from my consulting work in Germany, on Wednesday, June 3, 1987, I did guide a Dutch gentleman and friend, Jan Thielen. He had picked me up at my Parents' and we enjoyed the privilege of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' business class 'Van Gogh' room to relax. A great luxury, due to my courtesy card.

While Pieter was in Australia and New Zealand, I'd also gone the day before, to the cremation of Pieter's former boss, in The Netherlands and met with lots of friends.

Now we landed in Atlanta, and it happened to RAIN so heavily, due to a tropical thunder storm!

Luckily I had stuffed my leather travel bag, with an extra coat, just to fill it up.

Now we each had a coat, for hanging over our head... I used my Burberry trench coat.

We hung the wet coats in the back of the car, over the luggage and drove home.

Jan, politely had asked me to press his business suit as his pants still had gotten the full load from the rain, below the coat...

He was one of our many house guests and he used our guest bedroom.

Next day we all three had breakfast on the patio, and Pieter went with Jan to the Campbell mushroom plant.

Nicely cuffed... The 'Short Suit' click for link
Pieter called me from the Mall in the late afternoon, and asked if I joined them, as Jan wanted to buy a tennis racket for son Ruud.
At said store, I found myself white slouch socks! As I was wearing in previous post...
Then, I held a pack of black slouch socks up to Jan and said: You ought to buy these, for wearing with your business suit!

Like this, dress shoes with black slouch socks, as husband Pieter is showing off here.

To Jan I continued: Well... I better tell you the truth now. Those knees were so saggy, I had not succeeded in pressing the middle pleat neatly back again.
SO, I had to cut them off instead and changed them into some neat short suit pants, again WITH cuff, just like before.
I will NEVER forget Jan's face as he looked at me. He did NOT buy those black slouch socks and he hastily went to have the racket rung up and we went home.
He then did scoot straight from the garage, through our kitchen into the hallway, to his guest bedroom.
I could hear him yell out: HERE IT HANGS, NEATLY PRESSED!
He told me that he believed me, as I told him I'd altered it as it was not possible to modify it.
We all three had a good laugh!
But frankly, I would have loved to pull off this prank, videotaping it, of course.
Next day, I drove with Jan again to the airport in Atlanta and did change his flight from Texas to Florida and brought him to the gate for his departure to Texas.
Went shopping for Pieter at Muses in Lenox Square, Atlanta where I found 3 Burberry polo shirts for Pieter for Father's Day and some Lagerfeld cologne.

Pieter's Former Student and Mushroom Grower Took us up into the Sky

It is obvious that in 1985 a lot of things happened.
Unusual things too.
We had taken the son of one of Pieter's former students, a mushroom grower, with us on a trip to Florida.
He was here for the summer, on an exchange from Roteract youth, staying as a guest with families from our local Rotary Club.
So now, they wanted to kind of take 'revenge'...
We were back in The Netherlands and got invited:
We arrived on October 7, around 11:00 at the home of Pieter's former student and mushroom grower in Standdaarbuiten, in the Southwestern part of The Netherlands.
After a coffee, we also joined them for lunch and then they took us to the Royal Tree Nursery of Piet Van der Bom, in Oudenbosch.
After that, they took us to Oudenbosch Basilica a replica of the famous St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
Then they took us by 14:00 to airport Seppe.
Vliegveld in Dutch means Airport
Daan Van de Nobelen seen to the left, the father of the Roteract youth that stayed in Georgia for summer.
Husband Pieter to the left with pilot and loyal former student(s) Dré Heestermans, and Daan Van de Nobelen
Daan Van de Nobelen, me and husband Pieter next to the little plane
Pieter's former student, Dré Heestermans from Ulvenhout, took us one by one, up in the air for viewing the different mushroom farms from above, over the region where Pieter for years drove to from Horst, for giving classes.
Wearing my Burberry skirt and trench coat, it was autumn in The Netherlands.
Pieter let me go first...
He's always been a true gentleman, and living by the motto: 'Ladies FIRST'...
Pilot Dré, took me up first for 45 minutes, above Tholen, the area where Pieter taught its mushroom growers.
Son Rudy Van de Nobelen, had organized this for Pieter, as a THANK YOU
After I slid out of this little plane, it was Pieter's turn.
Pieter was taking off with one of his most loyal former students from that area...
Pieter's turn
Pieter ready for take off... but due to sudden weather changes, they were back after 35 minutes.
We all went to Kreekdijk, for supper with the Van de Nobelen family and after that, around 20:30 by surprise, all Pieter's former students from that region, where he gave classes in the 1950s before he established the practical training college in Horst, triggered in.
They served hors d'oeuvres, and after Pieter showed some slides with news from the Campbell Mushroom farm, they each told their story.
Quite an experience and rather moving for Pieter.
We were in bed by 1:30 in Standdaarbuiten en after breakfast in the morning we went with the son back to Van der Bom and then we drove to Limburg where we stayed with my brother Harry and his wife.
