{Flora from our Curaçao Vacation}

Just like to show you a bit more from the flora that we found on the Caribbean Island of Curaçao while on vacation at the Hyatt Regency. We did a lot of walking around the Santa Barbara Plantation, Curaçao ←click it . Around this finest golf course and marina resort community in the Caribbean it is nice hilly.
Here I am standing in front of one of the many towering Kadushi cactus  ←click it.
The Cereus Repandus ←(click it), better known as the Kasushi cactus is more like a multi-trunk tree with thousands of needles!
Surprisingly hard indeed. Click→ Christoffel Park, Curaçao for more info on this unique cactus.
Observing birds and everything else that came on our path...
I do need some help with identifying this large leafed plant or shrub with its amazing flowers.
Any hint is appreciated as we are curious!
Thanks to a courteous reader (see comment below) I got a link to Dutch Caribbean Species Register with this photo by Gerard van Buurt showing the Katuna di Seda. Is Papiamento name.
Pieter is showing you here the Acacia dealbata or Silver wattle, Mimosa ←(click it) flowers. Did you notice that this shrub also does have needles? One better watches out for it can really hurt you.
When we visited the capital of Willemstad, we of course did go also to the floating market. Fresh fruits from Venezuela are being sold every day on the quay. We bought several varieties and here I want you to see the yummy Sweet Calabash, Sweet Cup or Calabasi. Botanical name: Passiflora maliformis.
A typical fruit for Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands...
We certainly did enjoy this paradise and we will be back!
Have you ever been to the Caribbean?
Tell me do you love exotic fruits as much as we do?
Would love to hear from you...

  8. Hi Mariette, interesting photos! The flowers and the huge cactus! increhible! I recognized the fruit known as parcha here. It is played with her sweet and sour taste is very unusual, but common here on the island. There are several fruits that quality, 'bittersweet'. heh, heh, heh. Also the plant acacia o mimosa , you put as here the commonly know as Morivivi, is the union of two words die and live! because when you step on or touch close, then back to normal! and has some very annoying thorns. In the fields there are many of these plants as wild boil. you always learn something! hugs. Rose M.

  18. Hi Mariette!

WOW! That's one big cactus! Your photos are amazing and I love your smile and the sparkle in your eyes! What a sweet person you are to leave such wonderful comment today on my bog. Yes, I am new to the blogging world :) and I have no idea what I'm doing Lol! This is truly an outlet for me so I have not invested in professional design help. I'm forcing myself to just figure things out along the way. I'm still trying to customize my blog and (maybe one day..) I'll figure out how to design a pretty header!!

Your story really touched me. Sounds like you are very worldly indeed and I thank you so much for introducing yourself to me.

    Have a wonderful weekend Mariette!

  20. That is one amazing cactus. I've never seen one like that before. Thanks for your recent links and the raining cats & dogs video. I visited WooWork.blogspot. What a talented guy! Very cool stuff.

Yes, water is desalinated here. In fact, my 8th grader is going on a field trip this coming week to the desalination plant. Unfortunately, most people in this country waste water. They feel the need to have their maids wash their cars every single day, even during dust storms, and are constantly even washing down their driveways with water. Such a waste! I've gotten to where I hate to do it because, as with cleaning inside, you can spend so much time doing it, and then bam, another dust storm comes along and everything is dirty again.

Hope you are having a good weekend. Best wishes, Tammy

  21. Wine glasses like these used more "south" of Rome, Naples and more southern, like Sicily! Everyone needsto be more proactive to keep our earth safe. Starting with big business, pharmaceuticals, etc. And I believe each one of us makes a difference. Thanbks for stopping by! xo

  22. Liebe Mariette,

  23. Dearest Mariette, I can't stop smiling. What a lovely and adventurous time you and Pieter had on the the Caribbean Island of Curaçao. I felt like I was there with you both. Nature's splendour is really something to behold. I often think about God and how much fun it must have been for him to create everything unique and beautiful, right down to the tiniest of details. Oh, and what fun God must have had to choose colours. I love colours so much. Hope you are having a splendid day! With love and care from Kerrie xOx
