On December 8, 2013 my husband Pieter did rescue these lovely white Camellias. They are either Camellia Japonica Nuccio's Gem or Camellia Japonica White by the Gate. We both love white flowers but they are very sensitive to rain and wind as they bruise easily. Over the years I have come to admire all those professional growers that deliver perfect corsage Camellias without any blemishes.
Well, these Camellias still look lovely don't you think so?
It is very hard for displaying Camellias as they have NO stem...
So the best way is on a shallow bowl with water but they don't last that long.
Do you have Camellias and if so, what is your favorite color?

Those really do look lovely Mariette! A little bit of spring inside the house is always a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a most wonderful weekend!
xo Catherine
Dearest Catherine,
DeleteThey are lovely flowers for creating a little bit of spring indeed. Anything blooming in wintertime is most welcome.
Yes, we just got back from a delicious Italian dinner, we invited some friends and had a very pleasant evening!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such lovely flowers. My husband recognized the name right away. He exclaimed Camielia Sinensis! .
Dearest Munir,
DeleteGlad you enjoy them too, they brighten our dreary winter days.
Glad your husband knows the Camellias.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette, Your camellias are so beautiful. I think you have some near perfect specimens pictured. You are so right about their being difficult to display but what beauties they can be. For some reason camellias don't do well on this property. We have lost quite a few. We did have lovelies when we lived in the city and on higher ground.
ReplyDeleteI am going back to some older posts and try to catch up. Have a great sabbath.
Love to you, Ginger
Dearest Ginger,
DeleteCamellias belong to the south but indeed, difficult to display them in a nice way.
Oh, plants do react to a certain soil type and they will waste away when it is not their preferred composition.
Enjoy your Sunday too!
Hugs,
Mariette
Absolutely gorgeous! My White by the Gate is in bud, but no full blooms as yet. I keep checking. '-)
ReplyDeleteWhite is my favorite color for camellias.
Dearest Sarah,
DeleteThank you and glad you too have them. It depends on a lot of factors for them to bloom at a certain time but important is they are in bud!
Enjoy yours when they open up.
Hugs and happy Sunday.
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,

Michiko
Dearest Michiko,
DeleteHope you are doing okay with those hot days... Too much heat is as bad as having rain all the time. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated enough.
Glad you enjoyed our white Camellias here.
Hugs,
Mariette
We have a gloomy and rainy day in Warsaw today. These beautiful flowers brightened my day. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteBeste Marianne,
Liefs,
Mariette
OH La La!! these are brilliant.... the weather in our corner of the world does not allow for such beauty in winter. How wonderful to be able to enjoy floral gifts from Mother Nature in winter .... thank you for sharing with us my dear friend... xo Blessings, C. (HHL)

Beste Nicole,
Liefs,
Mariette
What lovely camellias!! I don't know how many colors they come with but I definitely love white!
ReplyDeleteThey look so pretty and elegant in the bowl! They get bruise easily but it makes the flowers more special when they are perfect :-)
Dearest Tamago,
DeleteThank you and yes, one almost can rejoice when they turn out perfectly white without bruises from the environment. Guess there are almost endless colors and also variegated ones. Sure, they come from Japan and I bet over there in your birth country you have lovely Camellia gardens and they are also used for cosmetics like Camellia oil for shampoo.
Hugs,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,

Enjoy your new week as well.

Good Morning Mariette, How thoughtful of Pieter to rescue these beautiful Camellias before they became blemished. The flowers look perfect displayed in your bowl. They would certainly bring a smile to my face if they were displayed on my table. I have a small Camellia, Pink Perfection, but to be honest, it is quite small and I am wondering if it is too cold for it to grow here in the North of England. We will see, I shall keep persevering. My uncle had a beautiful pink Camellia bush which was six feet tall and it was smothered in flowers in May/June, it was his pride and joy. He planted the bush about 40 years ago and it is still going strong.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your beautiful flowers and have a lovely day today.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Dearest Daphne,
DeleteThank you for your lovely comment and I do hope that your Pink Perfection will feel more at home in your region. Here they always bloom in the winter; which is such a bonus as there is no other blossom at that time.
Wishing you also a lovely new day.
Hugs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette,
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely flowers; they look they could be made of wax they are so perfect.
I've never tried to grow camellias as I would have to bring them inside for the winter.
It's a bit warmer here......hope you are enjoying kinder weather...........*suzi*
Dearest Suzi,
DeleteWe are so lucky that Camellias in general do very well here in the South.
It has been raining again, typical winter weather and when it gets clear again it will freeze...
We must hang in there for a couple of more months!
Hugs,
Mariette
Liefs,
Mariette
Your camelia's look lovely Mariette! Happy to hear Pieter rescued them from the weather. Lucky you to have them in bloom already. I think we will have to wait a little while longer.
ReplyDeleteHappy week!
madelief x
Dearest Madelief,
DeleteOh, those Camellias are such a welcome winter bloomer! Here they start as early as December and it is lovely to have them, even if they don't last long indoors but you always can get fresh new ones as they keep budding out.
Hugs to you and also a happy and mild week I hope for you.
Mariette
Lieve Mariette,
Liefs,
Mariette
Dearest Mariette;

Dearest Miyako,

Hugs and love to you,
Mariette
Liebe Mariette,
