Tying Your Tie

Would YOU know how to tie your tie?
Here I am on February 9, 1985 with my soft leather tie!
Always loved tying a tie.
Do you manage?
If not, on my Pinterest, I do have an entire board about SCARVES & TYING YOUR TIE just click for going there.
Yes, we do have very sunny days in February here in Georgia!
Mauzie girl always near me...
Husband Pieter holding me and my Thai born friend.
These are the hand crocheted curtains, done by me, that hung in The Netherlands, then here at our 1st home in Dublin, Georgia, in Italy and again in our 2nd home in Dublin, Georgia
Everywhere we lived we had windowsills custom made, for having the Dutch feeling with planters in Delft white pots on the window sill.

Do you keep pot plants?

  1. Oh yes Mariette, I know, how to tie my Tie :O)))
In the 80ies I was wearing ties a lot and I had many different colours!

Good for you, knowing how to tie a tie. You maybe also have sewn some your own?

  2. Hello Mariette, There are tutorials for tying all different kinds of knots for men's ties. They look complicated, but perhaps if I start wearing ties again I might try a few. I can no longer have house plants because, this year excepted, I tend to go away for long periods.

    1. Dearest Jim,
There are indeed many different kinds of knots to try.
In general ties are worn a lot less nowadays, which is sad in a way.
For having only limited house plants, it is for us for the very same reason. Back then the friend in the photo with us, she took care of them while traveling.
Also having kitties sure is not ideal for having house plants!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  3. Was lovely to look back at the post links Mariette, your verandah shots are gorgeous. Your hand crocheted curtails certainly served you well. I think to have something familiar like this each time you move must have been nice. Yes I do have houseplants in almost every room, and many on my kitchen windowsill. I love my greenery in the house, even though it adds extra work watering etc 💚🌿

    1. Dearest Grace,
Yes, those hand crocheted curtains have been quite a mega task I had to tackle again after 40 years. But that is done.
It indeed kind of created an instant 'home' feeling for me, each time I hung them.
House plants are such a personal touch and they add joy. Never mind the watering and pinching off of dead leaves, blooms etc.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. I always stand in front of a mirror to tie a tie and I follow the example of the reflection in the mirror.

    God bless, Mariette.

You no doubt have perfected that as a second nature for tying your tie in front of the mirror.

  5. I have no idea how to tie :-) You look very elegant in your outfit with red tie, Mariette! And your crocheted curtains are so beautiful. I love your large windows and window sill with pot plants. I grow are cat grass and cat nip in pots :-)

Thank you for your compliment and things can be learned...
The crocheted curtains were very special and for all those 40 years.
We only have some orchids on the wide window sill in the kitchen and a few in the veranda at times. Not like I used to anymore and frankly, the kitties are the reason!
      Hugs,

  6. I cannot imagine our home without plants. Two huge avocados, a Christmas cactus carried home by my son Carl from the supermarket where he works .. was only about 4” high and now is huge!! A withering Norfolk pine I rescued after its owner passed away and several others scattered here and there! Love the leather tie.

    1. Dearest Helen,
Wow, to have two huge avocados is special. I've always had Christmas cactus till we had to live and work in Indonesia... Sad for having lost them!
Yours must look stunning and they can be so rewarding towards their 'care-takers', in showing a profusion of blooms.
We had a Norfolk island pine in a pot on the patio that constantly got toppled by the wind, so we had to take it out... They have very prickly stems!
Oh, that leather tie has been a favorite for many years.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  8. I've never tied a tie, but I do like scarves in the cooler weather and can tie them a few ways. :-)

My gosh, you look like you're 15 in those first two pics. When I was young I looked even younger than I was and of course I wanted to look older, more mature. Now that I am, of course I'd prefer to look younger. LOL.

You're curtains are more a work of art, really. I can't crochet, though I can do basic knitting stitches (haven't in some years, though).

Yes, I have potted plants. Actually, I had quite a few plants in my office cubicle; people would comment on the jungle, how much they enjoyed it. Most of those plants are now in my home office, though some were really past saving and got composted. I have a jungle wall now. :-)

    1. Dearest Kim,
Well, tying a scarf also requires some skill and it can look very beautiful. Sure, fall weather and winter is the season for layering on.
No, I was more than double the age you mention here above. Never looked my true age, often that was a problem but looking back, it makes me smile.
You certainly do love them and too bad that your office cubicle got kind of terminated as far as plant life got concerned; SAD! Bringing them home for rescue is not the same as continued, good care.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  9. Mariette - my school days in England included a uniform with a tie - and it was the real thing which required tying, not those silly clip ons, so I had plenty of practice! Lovely pix of you back in the day.
Love your window curtains - crochet was never my strong point - but my cousin married a Dutch merchant seaman and learned to crochet. . . . . I think to please him! She has given me some lovely pieces she made when sailing the world on his ships (as he was second in command he was allowed to take his wife on trips!).

No wide windowsills here for plants - and only the right light for healthy plants is in the dining room facing south. Have a Christmas cactus and an aloe vera there currently, all my other potted plants are outside. Of course when it's amaryllis time in the coming months I will be growing them here on the dining room table as always!
    Mary -

    1. Dearest Mary,
Aha, you got quite professional in tying a tie with your school uniform! Love those uniforms and they sure solved a lot of problems.
Your cousin was good at continuing a typical Dutch tradition; all in the name of love I bet! She was lucky for being able to join him on trips.
Guess those window sills are typically Dutch, usually here in the South there is only a narrow ledge. Not fit for placing any house plants on.
We did purchase the lot we built our home on, by driving around in the afternoons and looking for the sun from the south. So our breakfast area is with a bay window to the East, breakfast in the sunshine (weather permitted!) and the veranda and living room face south, as well as our French doors in the bedroom. Only the guest bedroom, office and dining room face north...
We too keep most potted plants outside on the patio.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  12. Until now I have not been very good at forming a tie properly.
This is due to my daily work which does not require the use of a tie. But I will keep trying to practice.

Greetings from a distant country of Indonesia.
