On October 29, 1994 a Carolina wren Thyrothorus ludovicianus flew against the window and it recovered on Pieter's arm...

What a lovely bird.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Dearest Victor,
DeleteYes, it sure was!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, That video is amazing, considering how easily birds usually "spook." I wonder if it wasn't somehow a tame bird--perhaps it went to someone's bird feeder everyday, and so was used to people. I also think that bird instinctively knew that you and Pieter were the right kind of people.
ReplyDelete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes, it let me run inside to grab the video camera and waited very calmly. We of course have been feeding them and spoiled them with chopped nuts. Also talking to them, while out in the garden for weeding. So they knew us quite well! Guess their instincts are strong.
Hugs,
Mariette
Hi again, This was a sweet post, and I should have guessed that you and Pieter were the ones who tamed and were nice to the bird!
Delete--Jim
Dearest Jim,
DeleteYes we did and loved doing so. This might have been the very same Carolina wren that came inside our veranda, up the stairs and onto the mat, then up to the ramekin with mixed nuts. I'd tamed a squirrel, a mockingbird, a brown thrasher and this Carolina wren for doing so when Mom & Dad came to visit us in 1996. First breakfast Dad said, he'd have to pinch himself in order to make sure he was not dreaming...
Did now add the previous post with picture of the Mockingbird inside veranda.
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh, goodness, how sweet. I'm glad it was okay! ♥
ReplyDeleteDearest Kim,
DeleteThank you and yes, it was like a 'gift' for having it that close to both of us!
Hugs,
Mariette
Bellissimo video, questo scricciolo non ha paura delle persone.
ReplyDeleteCara Olga,
DeleteGrazie e con pazienza e nutrendo gustose noci tritate, le abbiamo anche chiamate. Ci conoscono bene.
Abbraccio,
Mariette
My very favorite garden bird! I loved seeing this interaction and hearing you two 'lovebirds' chattering away in Dutch whilst the sweet bird looked really comfy, and definitely interested, in all you and Pieter were saying!
ReplyDeleteMary X
Dearest Mary,
DeleteThank you and it sure is my favorite as well.
They do recognize your voice and I've always given them all a name, so they learn and especially when being fed! For Mom & Dad I even managed to call them inside our veranda, adjacent to our bay window kitchen area where we had breakfast.
If they know they're not being harmed they really do connect with their humans!
Hugs,
Mariette
Love hearing your sweet voices .....
ReplyDeleteDearest Helen,
DeleteThank you and this was such a lovely encounter! Such a sweet darling bird.
Hugs,
Mariette
Lovely bird. Fortunately, it survived.
ReplyDeleteDearest Anne,
DeleteIt is a real darling and so hyper, catching spiders and insects and singing loudly.
Glad it had no damage, just a bit of a shock initially.
Hugs,
Mariette
¡Funciona!
Abrazos,
Mariette
What a bloody great clip
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteThank you and yes, it quite an experience.
So glad I managed to grab the camera in time!
Hugs,
Mariette
This is an amazing moment. Animals do not know how dangerous transparency is.
ReplyDeleteDearest RTC,
DeleteThank you and yes, it was very amazing and we both loved every second of it.
Guess it was voice recognition and absolute trust that made it stay so close with us.
Hugs,
Mariette
Beautiful
ReplyDeleteDearest Regine,
DeleteYes, that certainly is one of nature's many miracles around us!
Hugs,
Mariette
Dear Mariette - I loved this little video of your Carolina Wren recovering after flying into your window. I try to keep our blinds down to prevent this happening, but even so, the birds still fly into our windows too. With a little patience they usually do recover and fly away again as yours did. Our little Jenny Wrens are very similar and I love them dearly. They always remind me of busy little housewives as they bustle around busily on the ground.
ReplyDeleteDearest Rosemary,
DeleteThank you and it was quite an experience for having this darling bird so close to us!
We too have our shades down but it still happens...
Guess the Jenny Wrens are identical, just under a different name. In Dutch we also have them as 'Winterkoninkje'or Troglodytes troglodytes which is also the exact scientific name for the Jenny Wren. Our Carolina Wren weighs but 20 gram and its scientific name is Thryothorus ludovicianus.
Just LOVE them and yes, they are an almost hyper species.
Hugs,
Mariette
What a lovely little bird ! And how lucky both Pieter and you were to have it stand on you for a while!!! You must have been very fast in grabing your camera, dear Mariette!
ReplyDeleteMany hugs!
Marie-Anne
Dearest Marie-Anne,
DeleteIt was lovely and quite an encounter.
Yes, I could race for grabbing my camera and obviously made it in time here.
Hugs,
Mariette
Buona serata e felice inizio settimana.
ReplyDeleteCaro Giancarlo,
DeleteGrazie e anche a tutti voi.
Abbracci,
Mariette
So cute.

Dearest Christina,
DeleteVery cute and oh so special!
Hugs,
Mariette
What a touching video. It is true kindness to be able to hold a bird like that. I'm sorry if I offended you on Victor's post about praying to Mary and the Saints. I suppose we all see things a little differently, but God bless you. I left you a note over there, but the post is a while back so you may not see it.
ReplyDeleteDearest Sandi,
DeleteYes, this was oh so special and I got lucky for racing to get our camera and then capturing it.
You did not offend me on Victor's post as it was not about me but the Mother of Jesus.
WISH you could have had an encounter like we had:
