About Me

My photo
Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html

Planting, drainage, more burning and hacking

The  mega task of reclaiming the land of the adjacent lot, is showing that the end is in sight!
Pieter partly has begun planting shrubs to replace the ugly underbrush that he cut out.
Also drainage for letting the wet areas run dry over time.
Of course, still more controlled burning to do and hacking thicker branches with the long handled machete.
IF someone knows its correct name, please let us know!
Again as usual, best viewed on YouTube by using the clickable point below, with detailed description.
You bet we both were looking forward towards the end of all this!
Oh, digging up all those ugly tuberous roots from the Greenbrier, was quite a challenge...

  1. A lot of work went into making your property the oasis that it is now. My first born was 2 months old in December of 1995. I still have videos from the late 90s and early 2000s that I don't think we've ever viewed. One I know includes my father-in-law around Christmas maybe 1996 or so. One day hopefully we have a way to transfer them all to media that we can actually watch. Take care.

    1. Dearest Martha Jane,
Wanting to establish your own garden comes with lots of hard work and especially being the very first ever people to start it on this soil.
      Hugs,

  5. Hello Mariette, After all of Pieter's and your hard work, it seems that it had barely begun. At this point you at least had the satisfaction of a few plants actually in the ground, plus the land already looks considerably tamed. I hope that Pieter didn't get too used to burning things--I understand that it can get into the blood!

    1. Dearest Jim,
It was rough and a lot of hard work indeed but Pieter knew what he was doing and we had our plan in place. As to burning things, how else would you have gotten rid of all that?! Having it done by professionals was no option, it was too swampy for reaching it with stump grinders or whatsoever. And what do you think the cost would have been, if doable?! We always have supported Pieter's ex and his adopted daughter and for that we often had to make do with very little for our own. But we're mighty proud for having managed it all! https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2011/12/our-daughter-liz.html
      Hugs,

  9. This is a hard work. I am afraid you suffered muscle pain. Your work have given a good natural view to this area.

    1. Dearest RTC,
No, my Pieter did not suffer muscle pain but was able to eat and sleep well and he felt satisfied about things accomplished.
Indeed, we left it quite natural and only added something.
      Hugs,
      Mariette
