Here I would love to share with you our travels and adventures as international mushroom consultants. MEMOIRS about husband Pieter Vedder, who was a SCIENTIFIC PIONEER in Commercial Mushroom Cultivation Education. His practical handbook is in 9 languages and is called the MUSHROOM BIBLE: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2020/08/modern-mushroom-growing-2020-harvesting.html
Hello Mariette, Pieter is brave for going so high on a ladder. I like to be handy, but I do not like ladders. My limit would be the first story eaves. I vowed that I would not do work above my head while at the top of a ladder, but Taiwan has high ceilings and it seems that there is always some task up high that needs to be done and is not worth calling someone in for, so up I go. Still, there is no way I would have tackled Pieter's branch project! --Jim
Dearest Jim, Well, this 'was' as Pieter no longer would dare to do this. High ceilings do make quite a difference indeed, we got 9 feet ceilings at our home and there remains a lot of ladder work. We better hire the professionals for doing such tree jobs as they are far better equipped. Hugs, Mariette
Hi Mariette! Big branches. It’s horrible to watch a high-flying husband. Was your husband afraid to climb up? My husband is not usually afraid of high altitude, but a few years ago our second house was replaced with a roof. There was a situation there where my husband did not dare to move anywhere, but hung in place in a safety harness. I just started from below, advising him to get a walk on his feet. Fortunately, there was no need to interrupt the rescue service to lift him off the roof.
Dearest Anne, No, as you say it is hard to watch your husband do this. No, Pieter has no fear of heights, neither do I but there are limits one has to know. Replacing a roof is yet another story and it takes a lot of courage indeed. Glad it went well. Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Victor, Yeah, remember you telling that story! It can be tricky and especially up high. Pieter dared to do most things but not anymore. Hugs, Mariette
I want to thank you for your thoughtfulness in remembering my Tucker. It was kind of you to visit us. I know it was weeks ago now. Please forvgive the delay in giving my thanks.
Dearest John, No, certainly not! You are quite welcome and we know how that feels as we have kitties ourselves and lost a dear one last year end of October. They are greatly missed but they were LOVED. Hugs, Mariette
I found I was holding my breath too!!! That was too high but I was glad to see Pieter did at least tie the ladder to the trunk to stop it from sliding and him being thrown off! Bob, against my wishes, sometimes goes up about 10 steps with a rake or the blower to clear a few twigs that fall on the roof and the wind won't take them away - and I always hold the ladder! Sorry to hear the worrisome new variant COVID news from The Netherlands, and other areas of Europe - seems lockdowns and such are back and Christmas gatherings will be difficult. Take care - hugs, Mary
Dearest Mary, Sure, a good quality ladder and security measures got taken care of. Oh, I've held that ladder numerous times; writer friend Uncle Bo called that 'mutual trust!' Europe is in a tight grip of lockdowns and their Saint Nicholas and probably Christmas has been ruined... SAD! Hugs, Mariette
Puhhh alles gut gelaufen...
Oh, gosh, he was either very brave or very foolish. But then I just don't have the head for heights; even step ladders scare me, though I do need mine from time to time. I'm glad, though, that this was in the past and that you hire the professionals now!
Dearest Kim, Well, we had the professionals then as well but this was something that Pieter could not stand, so he got into action! Strong willed person and he's managed many things. But we have to respect our age, even without any issues with heights... Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Kim, Sunday went well, a super active day with two rehearsals together with the orchestra and organist and then two performances... Felt so good for having it all done and it went well with a good turnout. Christmas party afterwards was relaxed and fun! Hugs, Mariette
Dearest Helen, Yes, your son-in-law is right and I've been thinking twice since I had my double, closed pelvic bone fracture. I used to get up the ladder to clean the pine needles and leaves out of the gutter and such... No longer feasible. Hugs, Mariette

When I did that I nearly cut the branch I was sitting on. Pieter is brave.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.

Just watching Pieter up there on that ladder gave me vertigo, Mariette! I won't let Danny get on a ladder, especially one that tall.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Dearest Martha Jane,
DeleteWell, both of us have never had any problems with heights so when Pieter was fit enough, he managed well.
Hugs,
Mariette
Not for the faint-hearted!

DeleteHow did it go on Sunday? Do you still have a voice? :-)

Abrazos,
Mariette
My son-in-law told me a few weeks ago ... "Helen, no more ladders for you!" At age 80, he's probably right. Cheers on this Sunday .... enjoy your day.

Wouldn't get me on a ladder
ReplyDeleteDearest Jo-Anne,
DeleteNot anymore...
Hugs,
Mariette
Just watching Pieter up there on that ladder makes my legs wobbly, Mariette!
ReplyDeleteThat was really brave of him but I am relieved you said he doesn't do this anymore!
Have a wonderful Christmas.
Dearest Veronica,
DeleteGlad this happened only once and it went well.
Hugs and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Mariette
This was very dangerous. He is strong and healthy but he has to be careful.

Dearest Christina,
DeleteWell, it looked rather risky on the video later...
Glad he no longer dares to do this!
