Once more I enjoyed singing in Händel's Messiah, did so with Pieter together in 1995 in a community concert.
Georg Friedrich Händel was German by birth but lived and performed in England.
There is no better language than music and especially this masterpiece, for touching ones soul...

Chancel Choir and Orchestra
Tenor Collin LaHood who traveled from Macon to join us.
Matthew Kersey also traveled quite a distance for teaming up with us to sing his solo pieces.
Matthew Kersey ended up singing the parts of Elizabeth Colemann as she was unable to be with us...
Matthew is an excellent choral educator who studied at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
Soprano Cindy Claxton did an excellent job singing her solos.
Soprano Kathy Jones, as usual did an excellent job!
Our Orchestra:
Erica Cliett, Oboe
Jeremy Messenger, Trumpet
Mark Lee, Trumpet
Richard Horne, Timpani
Zachary Golden, Organ
Ben Cork, Violin
Julia Sellman, Violin
Amanda Zhang, Violin
Brant Harlacher, Cello
Our Director M. Dwain Little put a lot of time and effort into this and it was worth it!
Pieter said, he would not have wanted to MISS these two performances.
It makes one happy and most people appreciated it.
Such a joy to perform for others, to enjoy Händel's Masterpiece.
The final part of Hallelujah was well received and turned into a sing along for some.

Merry Christmas to ALL!

Mariette
I love that you sing in a choir, and have the most wonderful opportunity to sing The Messiah at Christmas. It must be such a thrilling experience. All my life I have sung in choirs, some competitively, but have only ever sung the Halleluia Chorus. Covid has seen a very considerable reduction in singing here in Australia, and all I can do is sing in our church choir, wearing a mask! Did not think I could do it, but one finds a way :) Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteDearest Patricia,
DeleteA thrilling experience it was indeed and it is the most beautiful piece of music to sing. It is so sad that several countries force their people to wear masks and/or into lockdown. You at least try hard to sing and that is food for the soul. We need that proper balance for being able to live a happy existence.
Hugs,
Mariette
Mariette, I just finished hearing it and I have to say I LOVED to hear your church choir sing! Amazing and I love especially the last song. It is one of my absolute favorites.
ReplyDeleteI love opera and classical music and one thing I try to watch in the first day of the year is the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra New Year's concert.
The one from 2022 was amazing and for moments, even if they only do the instrumental part in Vienna, I was taken back to that concert, hearing your choir performing!
Here is a link to the presentation of this year's concert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvDyVRmv_DE
Dearest Paula,
DeleteThank you so much for taking the time to listen to us sing.
Yes, it is touching the soul and together with a strong Faith—it is almost supernatural.
How could a composter be guided to write such a HEAVENLY piece of music?!
So now you also understand why I never left this choir—even being a Roman Catholic—but our 'choir' is a far cry from this. This is more fulfilling for my soul and I attend both!
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh, for years we have listened even here to the Vienna New Year's concert. Both of us love classic music.
I'm glad you never left the choir and as the Bible says "I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples." Psalms 108:03
DeleteGod deserves all the glory, in all the ways we can give it to Him!
Lots of hugs to you and Pieter, too!
:)
