{White Petunias & Pansies in Fiberglass Window Boxes}

For the Easter Season it looks really nice to have our Fiberglass Window Boxes from the Flower Framers of Cincinnati (see link way below) filled with all white blooming flowers. At our Bay Window area of the kitchen we got White Petunias and alongside our Veranda we still have our White Pansies...
The window boxes at the Bay Window (3) are filled with White Petunias
Below you can see the tiles from our Patio where we keep now our Pot Plants, visible to the left...
Alongside the Veranda we got White Pansies as those were still very healthy.
The storm door is also from Vintage Woodworks, Texas.
Beautiful White Petunias!
Do you have any white planter box flowers?

{Our Patio Tiles Are DONE!}

Yep, our glazed ceramic tiles in Sunset are all done! So here is the result at our bay window area.
Photo is from April 3, with beautiful weather and our dogwood tree in front of the gazebo blooming.
Also the ginger bread from Vintage Woodworks stands out here.
The tiles got laid just in time before the rain started...
Lovely light... Trees with their new leaves unfolding in all shapes of green.
Catkins from the tall oak are falling off.
Here you can see the slanted patio when you look at the bricks of the stair case.
This is as part of our water control, to lead all the gutter overflow and the water from the sky away from the house via the gutter at the patio's end.
Different angle and showing more of our Fiberglass Window Boxes with white petunias.
Sunny and the hummingbird feeder is filled up again.
Another mini patio on top of the concrete that Pieter poured himself, where once the gas tank resided.
The tank is now to the left and this looks a lot friendlier with all the potted tropical jasmines.
They seem to have survived that last winter freeze...
Now waiting for their blooms.
Rose Stepping Stones lead to these planters that husband Pieter has all painted over, as they had faded away. They too have rose reliefs all over!
Do you like the patio parts?

{Our Pansies in December}

Pansies are such a JOY to grow in the fall and winter season as they are so GIVING!
Look here at Our Pansies in December:
Husband Pieter took these photos on December 3...
Fresh rain on their friendly 'FACES'
These white Pansies are in our Fiberglass Window Boxes alongside the retainer wall on our driveway.
These boxes are from Flower Framers of Cincinnati
Stepping back a bit further to show them better...
This is looking the other way, towards our fragrant double flowering Magnolia Grandiflora 'Namnetensis Flore Pleno' tree.
Do you have any flowering plants outside?

{Our Home with Aluminum Interlock Roofing and Benjamin Moore Golden Mist Exterior}

Now, here comes the final REVEAL! Our completed home with the Aluminum Interlock Metal Roofing and the Benjamin Moore Golden Mist Exterior... We have waited long enough, for having better weather to take photos, but that never happened. Only now our balcony has been completed as well. As I write this, not yet painted by the very same professional painters that did our entire exterior of the home and the gazebo. When that is done, you will get more photos from the back of our home with the balcony as well.
Photo has been taken on June 24, you see how gray the sky looks; pregnant with rain...
LOTS of rain we have had.
We got so lucky for having the roof installed in 4 days with perfect weather and also for the painters we had 3 weeks of perfect weather.
Needless to say that our lawn is GREEN... but soggy!
The Benjamin Moore Golden Mist color works perfect with the Aluminum Slate Roofing in Aged Copper color. We did our very best to lower our Carbon Footprint and it pays off!
The shutters are in a Chrome Green and the windows and all the Vintage Woodworks gingerbread wood trim, balusters and posts are in white.
What do you say?
The indoor shutters are not fully open...
The white hibiscus are blooming in front of our home.
Now let's walk around the corner towards the bay window area.
This photo I made on August 6, the same gray sky and very pregnant with rain.
Our Speckie girl followed me, as they all usually do – like a doggy.
This is back to June 24, with the white petunias just having been planted inside our Fiberglass Window Boxes.
There was so much to do after the painters did pressure wash the house.
Next they caulk it and painted it with two layers of Benjamin Moore paint in Golden Mist.
We had to take all the Window Boxes off the walls, as it had to be bare.
Than putting them back on, filling them with potting soil and finding plants in summer time...
A little bit closer for the picture.
Our prostrate gardenias are blooming too.
Now you can see the gazebo coming in view as well.
All our trees are so lush this summer with that much rain.
More view of he gazebo.
Below the large dogwood tree, no grass is growing in the shade...
Now it is pure mud!
One last view of the Benjamin Moore Golden Mist with Chrome Green for the shutters.
You can see here that the balusters are still not on the balcony.
I will show that later with the complete back side and in another post also you get to see our gazebo.

All those planter boxes had to come off the walls, and back on...

Our youngest cat-man 'Smokey' walks here on the driveway.
I found him up in the magnolia tree next to the driveway to the left (not visible here).
Somebody must have put him out there. A poor kitten; literally skin over bone.
He was trying to steal some morsels from our cats but there was not much left...
Smokey is part Persian and we got him back to good health. He was so sick at first.
Cowards that put him out like that and they had even tried to kill him as he was so tender on his back and also his tail. He barely could 'talk' and his throat was very sensitive to touching.
God knows what this poor soul went through before I did hear him, thinking there was a hawk rustling those magnolia leaves...

That was so far the update on our home and on Smokey!

{Energy Efficient GREEN Roofing Arrived}

It takes quite some time for getting the photos and all the information for writing these posts about our home's transformation. Here I will show you that on April 18, right before we left for our Curaçao vacation, our Interlock Energy Efficient GREEN Roofing Arrived!
JIT = Just In Time...
Our cat supervisor Speckie girl keeps an eye on those pallets!
To the right you can also see our 'Golden Live Oak 'Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold'.
So how did we find Interlock Roofing?
After we had water leaking into our basement in February, we decided it would be time to do something about our roof and gutters.
The aging shingles did clog up our gutters as the sand-sized minerals in it, did wash down the roof with heavy rains. Over the years this had worn off and it made the gutters spill over when we had heavy rain.
Searching the Internet I found this Canadian company, in Delta BC. That is the Province of British Columbia where our Liz is also born so we both know that good things come from Canada.
The name of the company is Interlock Metal Roofing a Manufacturer of Lifetime Roofing Systems. Never re-roof again.
They are one of North America's largest metal roofing manufacturers, with over 12 distribution centers in Canada and the United States.
When we contacted their head office in Delta, BC Canada, we got a reply from their Georgia representative.
Sure, such an investment one does not make over night.
After we studied very thoroughly and really LOVED this Energy Efficient GREEN Roofing; we went ahead and ordered it.
Reduce your Carbon Footprint, now and for a lifetime - that sentence appealed to us!
Energy Efficient GREEN Roofing link to above page
Interlock® Roofing is an Energy Star® Partner
We figured that by investing into a life-time roof, that could save us 25% in Energy Costs is a lot more return on investment than anything else at this time with our downward economy.
On the same page it did explain all the different types of aluminum roof and giving their Reflectance.
We went for Slate in Aged Copper and you can see below what that would do for us.
This Aluminum Aged Copper surface reflects 55% of sunlight and has a solar reflectance of 0.55 initially and 0.34 after 3 years.
We did select Interlock® Aluminum Slate in Aged Copper, top left as one of nine colors available.
That would look best like what we started out with in November of 1990 with our shingle roof, as seen in my blog post about Our Home on March 24 of 2013 (see link below).
Our fiberglass window boxes had come off the walls for the painters to pressure wash the home.
Here they hold the tarp in place for protecting more Interlock material for the roof.
Next day we had to fly to Miami so it was a good feeling it had arrived all the way from New England.
Our cat-girl Spicy is keeping watch!
In the back again our stunning Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold!
Stay tuned for the follow up...

{Smelling the Verbenas}

Yes, our felines often do teach us how we ought to enjoy our lives... They eat, play, groom and relax more than their human parents. Our Spicy even likes 'Smelling the Verbenas'. On their favorite spot, up high on the retainer wall adjacent to our driveway where the fiberglass window boxes are hung with Verbenas. Don't you envy your cats at times, when they enjoy their luxury Resort & Spa lifestyle? While we have to clean, cook and do laundry... But we don't mind serving them, do we? Let me know, what is your take on that.
Smelling the Verbenas...
Below this post you find a link to my blogpost about: OUR FIBERGLAS WINDOW BOXES.
FLOWER FRAMERS of CINCINNATI, OHIO
(see link below)
Those are the best flower boxes on the market.
The only draw back is that ours are very heavy for lifting them off the wall...
We better would have chosen four lengths instead of three!
Another planter with Verbenas, near our bay window area.
No wonder they use Verbena for French milled soaps, hand wash, hand cream and such...
Probably a nosy feline did point them into the right direction!

{Our Gardenia jasminoides 'Radicans'}

  • Today I like to show you our heavenly fragrant Gardenia jasminoides 'Radicans' that we do have in front of our home and on the side where the bay window of our kitchen is.
  • By mid May they were in full bloom and we took several pictures of our different varieties, which I will post later.
  • Shown is the 'Radicans' and also the dwarf 'Radicans' Gardenia ←(click it). Come join me on this fragrant Garden Tour
  • This photo is from 1993 when we still had the regular Gardenia jasminoides Radicans in front of our veranda windows. Beautiful Fleur de Lys edging and scroll work from Vintage Woodworks, Texas.
  • We had to remove them, as they were blocking the view!
  • The dwarf variety we did keep however.
  • Those planter boxes are the little ones we had before buying the fiberglass window boxes.

  • The azaleas in the front are all replaced by dwarf Gardenia jasminoides 'Radicans'. The front porch shows also the same Fleur de Lys edging and ginger bread, balusters and posts from Vintage Woodworks, Texas.

  • You see the blossoms fully opened and some buds for the coming days.

  • Gardenia jasminoides 'Radicans' in all its splendor!
