Our Garden Critters Visiting before Sunset

Photos from May, with Pieter's iPhone... was nearest to grab!
What a SWEET view from our kitchen bay window!
A doe visiting us, looking for some food...
We were so delighted!

  2. Awww, what a sweet visitor. ♥ I always think of visiting wildlife as gifts, a blessing for the day. Once in a while you'll see deer in town, of course, perhaps confused (we do have two conservation areas in the city), but I've never seen deer in our immediate neighbourhood. Before all the construction of the the overpass above the train tracks near me, you'd occasionally spy a deer if your timing was right. Of course coyotes and foxes, they do abound.

    1. Dearest Kim,
This is like the icing on the cake. We've seen a red fox with baby in the moonlight, near our pond. Raccoons, possums and lots of birds. Turtles, even the nasty snapping turtle... I've rescued numerous lizards that our kitties love to catch.
Compared to The Netherlands, we live in Paradise, that is for sure.
You however have shown lovely photos of your paradise over the years.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  4. Hello Mariette, The deer was probably looking for the tender shoots of all that Smilax that Pieter rooted out. But as you are the perfect hosts, I sure it didn't go away hungry.

    1. Dearest Jim,
Probably it was grabbing acorns and grasses as Pieter did not root out Smilax in that spot.

  6. Greetings! Anyone who knows me knows I have had a life-long love / fascination for deer. We have so many in Bend Oregon, we have to be cautious driving on the back roads.

    1. Dearest Helen,
We both have that same love and fascination for deer!
Each trip to Atlanta, we see several deer alongside the Interstate being hit...

  9. They are beautiful animals and we love to see them in the garden despite their munching on plants. . . . .. and siphoning off the birdseed from the feeders sometimes!
Have you noticed all the 'other deer' in yards lately - white ones, woven twig ones, some even decorated in lights and glowing brightly, LOL!!!!!!

    1. Dearest Mary,
They sure are beautiful and we don't mind them munching through our garden.
We don't care for the 'other deer'... not our taste.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  10. Pretty doe, I saw a couple playing like puppies recently in the woods. I do have two fake ones rather small with little twinkle lights at the sidewalk.

Yes, she was pretty and so elegant.
You no doubt have them in the woods in Virginia.
The two fake ones you got is more for the grand girls and that is understandable!
      Hugs,
      Mariette

  11. How beautiful!. I like deer so much. In Portugal there are also in some regions but they are wilder, they don't get close to people.

    1. Dearest Christina,
This was a view like a dream! Here the deer come very close to the homes because there is far more open space and woods.
      Hugs,
      Mariette
