{No fewer than 7 American Presidents are Direct Descendants of the Leiden, Netherlands PILGRIMS}

We are once again close to the U.S.A. Thanksgiving celebration, on the 4th Thursday of November. Since there is such a strong historical link between The Kingdom of The Netherlands and the U.S.A. I would like to dedicate this post to some History about the PILGRIMS. No fewer than 7 American Presidents are Direct Descendants of those Leiden PILGRIMS that sailed from The Dutch Republic to the New World.
This is how those Pilgrims went on board for arriving in the New World after having stayed in Leiden for about 11 years.
For Life in Leiden you can click the hyperlink to read about some very interesting facts.
For a Leiden Pilgrim Tour you can click on the hyperlink to actually see a video of the university city of Leiden where they lived all those years. ErfgoedLeiden.nl removed that video...
Indeed, no fewer than 7 American Presidents are direct descendants of the Leiden Pilgrims.
The Pilgrim Archives tell the story of the Pilgrims themselves and the 17th century Leiden that was their home, the city where Rembrandt lived and worked.

ErfgoedLeiden.nl - link no longer shows the above info...
From Leiden Pilgrim to American president - link from where you can take a look at the familytrees of these presidents.
Presidents Bush Sr. and Jr. do share the same ancestor with Barack Hussein Obama: Thomas Blossom.
Have a look as it is quite interesting!
Wishing all U.S.A. citizens a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Too bad the above info has been taken down...

Hi, good morning from Japan. Oh, Leiden is the place in your birth country where Rembrandt was also born (haha, I learned about it from Wikipedia) . Wow, this historical story is first for me to know and your country must have treated them very decently for 11 years. The Kingdom of The Netherlands sure is connected with many countries in many way at old times as my country had owed a lot to modernize through Nagasaki-city from the people of Netherlands.
Happy Thanksgiving Week to both of you♡♡♡ ; Halloween got kind of popular in Japan but few people pay attention to Thanksgiving day here p;)

PS> So sorry that I have missed your precious previous posts. please take care of yourselves♪
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan to my dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

If one loves history it is always interesting to learn WHY we celebrate certain things in life and how it came about. Yes, in the Golden Age, the Dutch people ruled the Seas and they were involved in a lot of countries through trade and such. Quite interesting and a very rich history.
There is no relation outside of the USA to Thanksgiving, even in my home country most people have no clue!
Don't apologize at all; you have other emotional things for dealing with. Thanks for your kind worlds, love and friendship and that is mutual!

This was in the glory days of the Dutch Republic as it is called the Golden Age. They did trade all over the world and were pretty much dominant on the seas.
Thank you for your wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving; we have so much for being grateful for!

  10. Hello Mariette, This is an appropriate week to learn these interesting links between Dutch and American history. President Garfield's birthplace was right up the road from where I last lived in Ohio, in Moreland Hills, and his beautiful Victorian house, called Lawnfield, is now a museum in Mentor, Ohio, and close to the city of Painesville that I wrote about once before.

A Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Always interesting when certain facts from history become more meaningful because they happened near the area we personally know. Good thing that it has become a museum as we need to preserve what little we have on history, compared to the Old World.
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well; even when far away but it remains in our hearts!
      Hugs,

Oh, we did brush up a lot on old history as it tells you more if you live in a country where it all unfolded. Going to Epcot Center and learning about the American history told by Mark Twain, we both were quite touched by a huge decor where we saw a hill in the snow and some people just walked back to their homes after having buried their children. So many perished from that Mayflower journey of 66 days. They lived in Leiden for 11 years and such a dramatic ending in the New World. Next post shows even more about that. We had that on our retina for some 30 years now...
      Hugs to you,
      Mariette

Neither did we grow up here but the Dutch and the USA history is so interwoven in many ways that we did study a lot more about it. But moving to the USA of course makes things even more different than only from the history books.
Hugs and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
